Interesting quote attributed to Laporte on Athletico Bilbao website on staying 'best option for me at the moment'

Perhaps as already suggested, Barca or Real have intimated a future interested or perhaps even City have suggested he waits until January and he is over the injury .

Nothing to suggest a lack of ambition.

Was thinking the same, but given what Ric said i.e. it came as a surprise to the club, I think the City option might be all but closed now.

I thought we should trust Txiki's decision to sign players, after all he is our Director of football.

I am sure he signed Mangala and Otamendi after scouting them for a long time.

He didn't spend 70million on them unless he sees them worth every pound.

Maybe they didn't meet our expectation last season, but with Pep they still has a chance to prove themselves.
Trust is earned. We did spend months scouting Mangala. Something went very wrong and I doubt he will be a City player for much longer.

We would have to give new defenders a season to get up to speed again and we can't keep doing that every year,i'm writing no-one off till pep has coached them for 6 mths

Maybe but if it is true Pep wanted Laporte and still wants Stones then two of our three experienced CB's are probably scheduled for exit. Assuming we have a Plan B now Laporte isnt a goer we are not going to have a squad with six centre backs.

Two of Kompany, Otty and Mangala will be gone if we sign two CB's, assuming Denayer is to be given a chance.

I don't want to sound like a "didn't want him anyway" sort but I've said for a long time that you don't take gambles with the spine of the team. GK, CB,CM and CF need to be reliable and solid. You can afford to be a bit hit and miss with fullbacks and wingers. The way we were ripped apart down the centre last season was shocking.

???? do not talk about things you dont know, our country (euskalherria) has a long suffering since Franco, too many spanish people like franco, so they dont like us, and a little bit of basques went terrorists because they suffered the spanish repression, but the 99% we hate the violence and we dont want it.

Euskalherria means lands of the euskera, euskera is our language, the oldest one of europe, a really old race, and spanish people dont want an UK, with wales,england... in spain are more different races than in Uk, here we have Basques, catalanes, gallegos, andaluces, canarios... but galego, catalan and castellano come from latin and euskera not, we were here before them and before romans, musulmans or anyone, and they want a united country. Thats the problem, we are not spanish and they want to make us one of them, and when you force someone to be something that he dont want, someone goes rebel and uses violence, thats the 1% i told you (many people vote to politics who were part of ETA but they regret about his acts, those ones didnt kill no one)

I hope this explanation can make you feel different about us...

The ETA is a pro Basque terrorist organization that killed close to 1,000 people. Never in any poll has the support for the ETA dropped as low as 1%. Those are facts.

Can someone briefly explain how we went from he will probably sign today ( sometime last week) to its all off. thanks I have been popping in and out but just missed the actual info. Did he say he just wanted to stay or is it still likely?

We were doing all the paperwork and getting ready to interview him and he did a late u turn and signed a new deal where he is with a 70 euro release clause,Ric said we were blindsided, his club and he both confirmed he is staying put

100% late tap up by Barcelona.

I'd be surprised if a player of his calibre would doubt his ability to develop and thrive under Pep.
He is 22 and has been with his club since he was 16,i think he chickened out at the lat minute,no probs with that but he could have let us know sooner or he used us to get a better contract, either way he isn't coming so we move on

I think he's on a different path. Barca or Real in 12 months

Disappointing, but as the philosopher Jagger says, you can't always get what you want. Let's get a little bit of perspective on this. If the lad wants to stay at his own club, that's one thing. If he moved in this transfer window to another club in Europe, having turned us down, that would be quite another. And if he moved to one of our direct PL rivals, that would be quite another again. So long as the last two don't happen — and as recently as five or even four years ago, they were happening — we've got to be stoical, and move on.
