Everybody knows Bilbao are difficult to deal with, remember United's saga with Herrera? Between who gets the money for tax purposes, how Bilbao announces it and then finding a Basque replacement drags everything x 100. What I have noticed is that Bilbao are releasing a lot of players, players are signing new deals and players are getting promoted within their system but they have announced whether or not Laporte has signed a new deal to up his release clause. I think that works in our favor and it's pretty much done.

Understandable given their circumstances.

Holding on to a fantastic basque player is often much more useful than getting a big cheque - if there's no basque CBs better than Laporte it doesn't matter if they get €100m for him, their team will suffer.

Their survival relies on being bastards to deal with.
