Aymeric Laporte

Well the Manchester Evening News did not buy City's not fussed PR. They plaster it as 'Laporte in snub to Blues' as their main back page headline and no mention of the stuff City leaked last night.

I think that hasty attempt to save face needs to be investigated internally and lessons learned as it was a foolish 'plan' and may have hardened reporters to play up the snub angle more than they would have done.

Sometimes silence is better than ill judged blurting out.

What was said last night was more like some hasty thoughts of a fan in here trying to cover up disappointment and hurt pride and not someone in control of PR at a major club.

I get that they had invested time and effort and it was a blow. But these things happen in football quite often and you have to rise above them and not show you are wounded. That just looks a little unprofessional.

For me last night's response is a worse result here than losing the player as I thought we were better than that.

As a club we should have issued a statement accepting his decision and admiring his loyalty and wishing him well and say we will move on. That would have been the right thing to do and classy and nothing more was needed.

Agree with the first bit, but surely you can't be serious when You say we issue a statement for every player we don't get. In laportes case We didn'teven put an official bid in.

Lets be honest. For decades they were terrorists.
hello from the Basque Country!
just to make things clear: we were NOT terrorists; we suffered terrorism from ETA and from Spanish State, which is very different. Tough matter not to be explained here.

Anyway and refering to Laporte, I do not agree with many posts I read here... his lack of ambition, he will make a nothing career in Bilbao, his loss, he will regret...
I admit that the opportunity City apparently gave him is hard to refuse: money, interesting league, very good manager (not my favourite, though), titles.... and I am sure Laporte thought very deeply what to do. But he, his decision and Athletic Club deserve respetc. However, in some posts I did not see it and it does not feel nice.

I am sure City spent no so good ages as you enjoy now but you never stopped supporting your team, did you? you did not start supporting United beacuse they won titles. Well it is not exactly the same but in some way Laporte is also an Athletic supporter and right now he considers to be in the right place. Unfortunately I do not think he will finish his career with us but he has always been honest with the club and the supporters. So the day he leaves, I will just be able to thank him for eveything and wish him the best. He is and he will always be part of Athletic Club.

For City all the best in your new project, I am sure you will do big things!
P.S. Sorry about my mistakes writting in English.

I think Mangala & Otamendi are miles better equipped for the Premier League than the other players we signed since Lescott was declared out of favour, who are either too slow, too wussy or both, but it's not easy coming to this league, especially under a manager like Pellegrini, & imo they have both been pretty much chucked in at the deep end, without much help & it's damaged their game.

No guarantee it wouldn't happen to Laporte or Stones, even under a different manager though.

Every single player or manager who comes to the Premier League tells anyone who will listen, how it's completely different, yet folks still don't seem to believe them for some reason.

Totally agree. I really rate Otamendi and I am conviced the City fans have been fed this bullshit about him being shite by the press. The utd/liverpool/arsenal loving press would say that though wouldnt they!

Not only that but they have already had a season to get used to the prem, why throw that away (Along with the millions) on a new defender who has to get up to speed.

Anyway, I always, and will always believe CB defenders are made not bought. Bring in Denayer ffs.

I don't know about Basques but he's probably better wearing one than joining us if he's happy to forgo the best Manager in football, being paid a kings ransom, winning trophies and challenging the best as opposed to finishing 5th and winning SFA! Bullet swerved if you ask me!

Well, the biggest predictor of injuries is previous injuries. Was never keen on signing him because of the severity of his injury. We have one fragile CB already.

Mangala has had two seasons and just doesnt look like a ten million player let alone a forty million one. Time to cut our losses. The press don't feed me anything, my eyes do. Otty is the one I would give another season to

Your English is very good. It is always interesting to receive comments from supporters of other clubs, when they are open about their allegiances. Laporte has made an unexpected but brave decision. Many City fans would have liked him to join us but we will move onto other targets. We respect his decision. Perhaps he will regret it in the future, who knows? Best wishes to your club in the future.

If he wants to stay at Bilbao fair play to him for his loyalty

We move on

Their are other CB out their.

Glad this didn't drag on until end of transfer window when we would have no time for alternatives

Can a player snub a club when no package / bid has been made. Drove past the Ferrari garage the other day and thought about buying one. Had a chat to the sale person who gave me the price, I said i would think about putting an offer in but I decided not to. I snubbed Ferrari...
