Aymeric Laporte

Is this lad as good as most people seem to think, I have seen very little of him and I think I’m correct in saying he’s not been cappped for the full French team as of yet which is quite surprising.
That season ending injury came in his last U21 game before he was getting called up to the senior squad, just unfortunate timing and nothing to do with his ability. He's now been pushed down the order bc of the form of Umtiti and Varane and a couple of others. Slight dip in his own form due to new manager and the overall squad but still one of the best in the team. I would say this is the perfect time to move, gets more eyes on him for a late push to make the World Cup squad.

Maybe, possibly, imminently.

Personally, I don't rate him and would rather have Evans.

He never convinced me he was good enough when we were in the first time. His heading is all over the shop and he's another who struggles when he is forced to turn and get back in.
Otamendi plays that left-hand side and has just signed a new deal.

The real issue is cover for the right when Stones is not fit and the unreliability of Vinny.

Laporte can't play on the right of a pairing.

For the money being touted, would rather get Evans as back-up for Otamendi (Fernandinho has already proved he is also able to do it)

We need to pay big bucks for another right-sided central defender.

I haven't seen too much of Laporte but what a glowing reference that is.

Yep. With you on this one. It's an awful lot of money for a player who hasn't looked close to fulfilling his potential and would be essentially our 3rd choice centre half. Only reason I can think of why Pep might be keen on him is if we shift to a back 3 when Mendy is fit.

Your opinion on Vardy is still absolute bollocks however ;-)

We do need Stones cover but Otamendi can quite easily play on the right if Kompany unavailable. That's if Kompany plays next season.

This, we'll have to change it up next year to stay ahead of the pack.

Since Kolarov left we don't have a CB who can spread the ball that well. Stones' lofted balls aren't good enough and Otamendi is better but can be hit and miss in that regard (and at least when playing on the left any lofted balls to Sterling are telegraphed). Laporte can do this.

We need big bucks on a left sided CB. Otamendi can play on the right without any issue and he is 29/30 whilst Stones is 23. Laporte and Stones could be our CB pairing for the best part of a decade. Also right footed CBs are easier to find.

I agree with most of that. But you just have to image Stones or Otamendi getting injured before a big champions league game and having to play Mangala. That alone is enough reason to sign Laporte, even Evans.

Guardiola wants to sign Laporte in the winter market

The coach of Manchester City places him first on the list of plants to hire immediately. The English club has not yet addressed the Athletic center

Josu Urrutia has managed to put out the Kepa fire when he begins to see disturbing smoke signals. Pep Guardiola returns to the charge by Aymeric Laporte. The coach of Manchester City has indicated to his club that he wants two signings in this winter market that ends on January 31. You want a central and a defensive midfield. The coach has indicated Laporte as first in the list of defenses. Followed by Jonny Evans, from West Bromwich Albion. In the center of the field, the chosen one is Fred, from the Ukrainian Shakhtar Donetsk.

Last Saturday Guardiola met with Ferran Soriano, CEO of City, and 'Txiki' Begiristain, sports director. The coach indicated that with his team involved in four competitions (Champions League, League, Cup and League Cup) he needs reinforcements. The lines indicated are two. In the defense center Stones and Otamendi are fixed. Mangala has not counted hardly and Kompany generates doubts because he is injured a lot.

Laporte appears here as the priority objective, although the sources consulted by this means indicate that City has not maintained contact with the rojiblanco center. If he receives a call, he will act as in the summer of 2016. Then, he indicated that if he wanted to, he should go to the club. The countdown is underway because the market closes next week. The clause of Laporte is 65 million, which rise to 70 from June. Your contract ends on June 30, 2020.

Urrutia stopped in 2016 the first attempt of Guardiola with a contract extension that made Laporte the best paid of the costumes, 4.5 million euros net.
