All this slagging of our ability to scout good defenders but go back and read the transfer forums at the time and hardly anyone was being critical. I keep saying that we can't make a judgement on a defenders true ability until we play as a team with an interest in defence. Fuck, Bobby Moore would look shite with our tactics at times.

That's the thing mate about most of our recent signings? Everyone wanking over them when we get them than claiming they knew someone would be shite? For the record I was and am still delighted otamendi is I. Our squad and alongside vinny in a settled defence would be back to being top class! The level of excitement when Fernando the octopus was signed was frightening! Truth is though some players will just not adapt in certain leagues? The scum had players that were world class and never lived up to it? Veron to name one! Sometimes it's the all round new country and more competitive faster league that catches them out?

I was of Mangala.
 
i'm convinced its all about the system we play as to how well the centre halfs play whether they cost £30m or £1m. surely leicester have proved that this season with two centre halves not consided good enough for a top 4 side looking great mainly due to a great defensive midfielder in front of them and a good chemistry.
 
For the amounts we've spent trying to get a decent centre back to partner Komps, I don't get why we have to look abroad all the time.

Surely, just look at who is the best centre back in this league and put in a huge bid, with a little tapping up and greasing the palms of his agent.

I don't know who that player would be, I'm not paid to make those decisions, but it'd make sense to look for someone who's used to this league. A few ideas ... Koscielny? Cahill? Vertonghen? Huth!?! Sakho?

We dropped bollocks with vertonghen and alderwield to be honest mate

It's not the system that makes defenders barge in the back of players in a ball they cannot win or the system that makes players constantly pass to the opposition that is just rank bad play!

Alderwierld should have been our purchase when we decided to pay Athletico for a free Demichelis so they could use that money to get Alderwierld.

At the time I pointed out how stupid the whole deal was, when we could have just gone to get the cheaper and soon to be better player.

Most thought I was just being whiny coz we weren't getting a player I liked.
 
How reliable is this Ed Malyon lad? Though ever since Di Marzio reported this as an almost certainty, I believe it.

Still don't know what on earth we want to do with Otamendi and Mangala, especially if we are raiding Everton to get Stones. Not to mention Kompany and Denayer. If 3 of these 6 will start in an ideal Pep eleven then I guess I can sort of understand it, but I doubt it highly (and also I guess we will try to offload Mangala?).
 
Denayer may come back as right back? Mangala will be out imo and Laporte and otamendi will fight to partner vinny.

My preference,and gut instinct,says keep Mangala ahead of Otamendi,however,its very possible they'll both be gone.

Laporte needs to be the real deal.
 
I can't believe we brought nico without the ok from pep who knows him well from spain,i think he will stay and this guy will be the vinny cover,as for denyaner who knows if he will get his chance,pre-season will be crucial for him
 
if we are looking at bringing back denayer and buying in both laporte and stones then for me that looks like pep is going to play with three at the back next season.
