Bilbao will never accept anything other than the release clause, if they do then Txiki deserves a statue

There's paying the release fee, and there's paying the release fee amount.

If Bilbao are not amenable to the deal, then we will have to physically give Laporte the money to buy out his contract. however, doing so incurs up to 20% extra cost because of taxes. So if this is a hostile buy, it's going to cost us more like £45m rather than £38m. I assume those are the negotiations going on.

Unless Txiki has other ways of sweetening the deal for them.

Christ, how much did they want for Stones if Laporte is coming for roughly 40 million pounds and isn't cost prohibitive?

Well Everton rejected £40m from Chelsea last summer, and now they've been taken over by a billionaire who's promising to invest and the new TV deal is months away so they'll be getting a big cash injection.

Stones is effectively not for sale. I think things will get ugly there, because the lad clearly wants to go.

We have been trying to buy this lad for two years.

I thought it would happen last summer but his clause was altered?

I find it intriguing that Pogba, Laporte and Isco are deals we have tried to get over the line over the last 12 months.

Hopefully alongside gundogan we can succeed this summer mate!
