Aymeric Laporte

This means we can let Mangala join Utd for 50m and 500,000 a week wages
May be an unpopular opinion but I actually think under mourinho and the protection his teams offer, mangala would become a top defender, wouldn't want him to go there

“The only thing I know is that Aymeric has been preparing for the game against Eibar like the rest of us.

“Aymeric has come to train like any other day. Today hasn’t been any different. If the player of the qualify of Aymeric leaves, of course it would affect us.

“Aymeric is an important player on and off the pitch but it’s his decision. Any player is free to do what they want.”

Much as I wanted him to come good the "Mangler" aint up to the job and imo will NEVVER become a top defender
I would fucking love it if PEG bought him - imagine him against Sane or Sterling or Kun or Silva

We don't even have to negotiate with them. We negotiate with the player, he agrees (this has long since happened) and then we deposit the money. Done and dusted.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I read somewhere that if you don't negotiate with the club, the player has to pay buyout clause himself, including huge tax. Is that true?

Quite understandably the rags are starting to quote his total costs as per Sanchez. The general figure seems to be one of £150 million. They seem to forget that we will have him for 6 years where he will be in his prime and it could only rise to this level if all targets are met. In which case it would be money well spent. Add to this that if required there will be sell on value as well.
So all things considered maybe comparison between the two are not valid.

Seems strange - and circumventable? OK, player has to pay - so, here's a signing bonus above what is otherwise agreed, said bonus exactly matching the buyout clause plus tax liability.

Yes. The contract is between Athletic and Laporte so the money has to come from him. If City reimburse him then it's treated as a salary payment and taxed. Basque higher rate of tax is 45% so in essence if his release clause was £55m we'd have to pay £100m to activate it (£45m in tax and £55m nett).

Once a club realizes that a player is going to move on regardless, what's to stop them from saying - OK - we agree. Pay us (for example) 65m (buyout was 55m) and we agree. Seller pays taxes on 65m versus 55m (but gains), player is sold as per his wishes, buyer pays less as tax liability on the buyout is not incurred.
