I haven't seen Athletic play in ages, anybody kept a close eye on how the lad is doing this season, has he 'trained on', so to speak ?

He is quite the footballer. However, not exceptional as a tackler/defender. Buy ivr always been of the opinion that the best teams generally don't have the best tacklers/defenders. Just the best footballers who play on defense.absolutly vital we buy this lad.
He is kinda like Stones. Looks like Busquet with the ball at his feet. Ok defender who anticipas well, but not spectacular. Then again, defenders on great passing teams are seldom spectacular.If at first you don't succeed ...

Ok thanks, more attainable than Stones though I suppose ? Stones will be a good player but it looks like all the speculation has wrecked his head a bit this season. Everton have a starkly better defensive record with him out of the team I think.

Dont think we need a new central defender. We need to focus on central midfield and fullbacks, and perhaps a winger. We will have a great set up with VK, Ota, Denayer and Mangala next season. But if Pep doesnt rate manga and sells him i guess Stones is the better choice of the two just cuz of his home grown status.

Denayer will be HG so, we dont have to buy a HG player just because of HG. I would go for Laporte, cheaper as wellDont think we need a new central defender. It doesn't really matter if we have any more then 4 home grown then the other 17 can be home grown or not we can still only have 21 players plus 4 club trained. Assuming we keep Hart, Sterling, Delph and Clichy then it doesn't make any difference whether we have Stones or Laporte it will still come off the 17 spots.Dont think we need a new central defender. Kolarov is no doubt about as he posses nothing that Pep wants in a fullback and Clichy lacks a lot of it as well barring his speed... we NEED new fullbacks as its been a huge hole in our team for 2 years now. Both of them would be sold if i were Pep as their wages are enough to be given to new players and our budget should allow it.M

Bring Denayer home and purchase two outstanding fullbacks and defence is covered imo.

Yup! with demi leaving and Denayer coming back we have 4 outstanding central defenders. We just keep Sagna and buy one for each side and promote Angelino and use Jason as a rb at times if needed.Bring Denayer home and purchase two outstanding fullbacks and defence is covered imo.

Wouldn't he be club trained rather than home grown, so we would still need 4 home grown as part of the 21.Denayer perhaps?
