Good luck getting a match winner for £40m on the current market. All those players would cost 50-80m with the exception of Ribery, Tevez, Yaya and Robben now, as they are all past it.

IF we have good scout, then we might get better players for less money.

Swansea bought Andre Ayew for free and he was a good buy for them.

West Ham bought Payet for 10.7 Million Pound, ( Cheaper than Fernando )

And there are so many other examples of what good scouts and director of footballs can do instead of just overspending on popular players.

Assuming Pep has been influencing since last summer , split Vinnie and Quim wider
tuck Fern and Fab in to make a solid 3 in the middle with all the width coming from Kev and Raheem.

Haha, I see what you did there...

I agree and I think our scouting as been an issue in the past couple of years

We IMO have become lazy and too often look for easy option

So you think Fernando was a popular player that everyone knew? I disagree and look how that worked out.

Remember when Hart wasn't an England starter at 21, Silva barely started for Spain and Aguero became Argentina's number one forward.....Laporte will be no difficult. Also, Gundogan isn't a regular for Germany.

What goalkeeper is a regular starter for their country at that age?
Silva broke into the team at 21 and has regularly appeared ever since.
Aguero has never been Argentinas no1 forward which makes his record impressive.
Gundogan's is down to spending over 500 days on the injury list since making his international debut and missing over 100 games.

Has Ayew been a good buy? He supposedly broke thier wage structure, cost them a £10m signing bonus and he's managed...8 goals.

Payet is being presented as a revelation...he's not. Everyone knew about him, no one was interested because he had an awful reputation for partying and not being professional - he once attacked his own captain on the pitch when at St. Etienne, only last season he got dropped at Marseilles for not putting effort into training and got banned for abusing the referees. There's a reason the France manager hasn't been picking him, because he's trying to stay away from the drama they had at the 2010 world cup and 2012 Euros.

Every club in the world knew who Payet was, they just didn't want to Spend £15-20m on a 29 year old guy who could explode at any minute, and West Ham did, so they tried to sign him all summer and failed, but then Marseilles hit some big financial troubles and had to offload him fast for a knock-down fee. They got lucky and Bilic has gotten the best out of him.

I'd much, much rather pay £50m for a 23 year old KDB.

Rather we went for Stones personally. Knows the league and has all the potential in the world.

If only we'd gone for Welbeck and Henderson instead of Aguero and Yaya. After all, they had all the potential in the world and knew the league well.

Yes because those comparisons are completley the same aren't they... Quit trying to be a smart arse, you're no good at it.

Laporte is a much better player than stones ,I think stones is overrated he's been terrible this year ,stones isn worth anything like 40 million 20-25 at the max

Well sounds like it's already a done deal so we will see next season. I just think this is going to be yet another overpriced CB who may be good with the ball at their feet but when it comes to actual defending struggles.

FFS! Stop coming on here with well-researched and succintly-argued posts. The likes of you are dragging this forum up.

I think his point is that 'knowing the league' is not a legitimate argument. And he is right. Bony knew the league.
