Aymeric Laporte

The situation between him and Pep reminds me of Mancini with Lescott, won stuff with him but seemed to never fully trust him. Hopefully Gravdiol is not the equivalent of the Savic/Nastasic experiments in Replacing Lescott.

Part of the frowny face brigade but you probably should expect that with (sort of) Frenchman. Pep seemed to cool on him after the nationality switch, you wonder if maybe LaPorte doesn't agree with the Catalan independence stuff.

Laporte is Basque hence why he was allowed to play for Bilbao. He is more likely to support the Catalan independence stuff than not.

It feels like there is something we don't know about Aymeric's situation. Either injury or personality or something else. It doesn't make sense that no one would be interested.
He is reported to be a bit of a loner but I think the injury issues are the problem, maybe a lot worse than we are aware.

Real Madrid please take him for €45 Million. Laporte deserves to play for a top team and we should get some share of our money back especially with likes of Maguire going for £30 Million.

Laporte was born and raised in France and is of Basque descent, the only reason he plays for Spain is because Deschamps for whatever reason never liked him, so I doubt Eric knows anything about Catalan independence.

Definitely one of the frowny faces as you say, but I also think Pep was referencing him (& Cancelo) indirectly when he heaped praise on Ake and Akanji’s defensive focus midway through last season. That presser felt like a message being sent.

Laporte & Cancelo were involved in the fuck up v Madrid in 2022, and Laporte had Lyon & Spurs CL mistakes against his name too. Sad way to go as imo he’s been a top player for us otherwise.
