I don't think there is a way back into contention. Villa would be a good stop gap. The only downside he had already turned down spursy. £40m isn't good for a player of Eric's quality but it is what it is.

£40M for Laporte would be good money. He’s 3rd choice LCB (maybe 4th!) can’t play LB can’t play RCB. Not going to play much if at all with us, maybe you’re right with £30M..
