Back pain/sciatica

I have arthritis of the hips and spine. Very painful. Steroid injections into the hip joints was not particularly successful and I am restricted on NSAIDs as they conflict with hypertension meds.
In desperation, I consulted a chiropractor. He crunched my bones for six sessions. Eureka! Pain relieved. Much better. Maybe worth a try. I take some NSAIDs and codeine, low dose.

Went to a chiropractor , bit disappointed to be told he’d done as much as he could , gave him my symptoms and sciatica was never mention

Get a second opinion from an Osteopath.

I had terrible back problems from a slipped disk in the mid 90s and from being stabbed with a craft knife about a year before then in my sciatic nerve. Had about a dozen sessions of physio and the last time I went the chiropractor manipulated my spine by putting his knee on my lower back and wrenching my left shoulder. At least that's what I thought he did. The Initial yank was excruciating and all of a sudden my pain was gone. Good luck.

Is it possible to feel sciatica purely in the hamstring area ?
Had trouble for approx 8 months , thought it may be down to driving for a living and pressure of changing gear regularly
Been to a chiropractor and had an ultrasound on hamstrings , nothing showing up.
Did bit of a workout and yoga yesterday and it’s flared up a bit , it’s not painful more a tingle purely in the hamstring
I used to get similar pain on and off relating to my sciatic nerve from my coxix down to my hamstrings.

Read up a bit around it, as I hadn’t any back injuries or significant incidents that could have contributed, and it was likely caused by underactive glute muscles. Essentially, the muscles in my glutes were being compensated by my lower back and hamstrings working extra, causing tightness and pulling which aggravated the sciatic nerve.

Funnily enough, it came during the lockdown periods initially when I was at my most sedentary. A few key stretches such as the couch stretch and banana stretch relieved the pain on the days I felt it, and working on a few months of glute activation exercises seemed to do the trick in the end.

Hope you figure it out.

My latest ailment, started to notice I couldn’t sleep turned in the right. This was months ago, but also felt like I had no muscle or arse meat on my right arse even when sat down. Felt like my bones were literally pressing on whatever surface I was sat on, bear in mind I’m quite a big fella.

Thursday just gone I can hardly walk and the pain goes from behind and front of my hip down to my feet. Only solace is to stretch. Had about 3 hours sleep last night and just got in bed and the pain is there again. I’ve had sciatica loads but this feels different.

I have it as well. Just flared up in the last week. Piriformis is the **** responsible, I'm sure of it.
Getting out of bed in the morning is excruciating.
I'm at the point of not drinking anything after 6 so I donb't have to get up for a piss.

Give this a watch.

Nerve damage can present in many ways, when you’re in the thick of it, don’t overstretch, work on gentle opening of vertebrae. I’ve had it so bad I had to piss in a bottle lying on my back, taking a shit was almost impossible, good times

I’ve found sleeping on my side on the sofa so I can’t turn in my back or front I’ve had zero back pain, gone back to a normal bed for two nights now and low and behold I’ve got pain in my lower back! That and the wife’s snoring and it looks like I maybe sleeping downstairs for the rest of my life!

At the moment I'm only getting sciatica about once every 18-24 months in my left buttock, and all the way down my left leg, so i can just about get by with it ..... the last bout of it lasted about 3 months , which was bad enough ..... i know that people can have it for much longer though, and one guy i read about reckoned he'd had it for 14 years!!!

Woke up today and it’s gone from the back of my hip to the front. Starting to wonder if it’s a dodgy hip? Only thing that makes me think no is that if I move a certain way I get the sciatic pain right down to my knee.

My dad once told me it’s shit getting old. He was fucking right you know.

Just a word of warning if you start having trouble to pee as well get to A&E it could be a sign that the disc has inverted and this can lead to paralysis, they would have to operate straight away as well, hopefully that doesn’t happen. I know because when I had back trouble a lad I knew had similar but it all changed and he got rushed in straight away.

I had a look at NHS for what to look out for, but cheers. Could do without being paralysed to be fair.

Pissing is normal so far.

Gents, for sciatica please try the book "treat your own back" by Robin McKenzie. I was 48 hours from going under the knife at Salford Royal the stretches in this book cured me. I was at physio for years, private and NHS, complete waste of time/money.

Heard positive reviews as well

Well it’s April and I’m still on the sofa and hardly any back problems, sleeping on my side is really helping plus the fact that o don’t hear the wife snoring is a double bonus. We are going to stick a bed in the spare room later on in the year, hopefully with some sort of cushioning against the wall so I can sleep against that, not ideal but it’s certainly helping my back and my life.

Hanging from the pull up bar in the gym for a couple of minutes before a workout does wonders for me. You can actually feel your spine decompressing, if it's too much for your grip strength rest your feet on something while you do it. Sitting in a deep squat against a wall helps aswell.
