Backing Hughes for a change.

I love these people that go on about being a City fan is different, as if we love our club more than anyone else because we're City. What a load of shit. Try telling that to season ticket holders of Bury or Rochdale who go week in week out in the hope of nothing...absolutely nothing. We're not really different to any clubs fans and it's arrogant to think so. Yes we're a loyal bunch when our backs are against the wall but for teams in the bottom two leagues there's backs are constantly against the wall.

Good point. Said it before, and will say it again, a hell of a lot of people both on here, and elsewhere have, since the takeover raised their expectations ridiculously high and got more than a little carried away. Yes, the wealth of our owners has done that, and yes, I have no doubt that with their continued investment success will come to our club, at long last.
But it won't happen overnight, and even the Sheik himself said it was a LONG TERM PROJECT.
No, didn't expect to be where we are currently, but no need for the panic still.

Definitely top 4 next season. As long as we win the local derbies with Burnley and Preston. Onwards with Sparky.

As one of the more vocal 'Hughes Out' brigade on here I've been thinking about all this a lot. To be fair to myself I'd say I'm more of 'Didn't want him here in the first place' guy as opposed to Hughes out. I have said along my reasons for this stance, which can be broken into three sub-reasons.
1. His rag past. Yeah I know it's childish etc but thats how I feel. At the time he was actually appointed I felt like I'd just found my wife sleeping with the ugly red oaf across the road. Betrayed.
2. I don't see the fuss about his managerial record. I just can't see past what a bad team Blackburn were to watch (even if the did beat us regularly)
3. I just don't actually like his persona. Seems very aloof to me, and has hardly made any effort to endear himself to sad gits like me who can't forget he played for the rags. I'm also unsure about man-management and this has spilt us fans into two trains of though on this, especially with the Elano business. For me, good man management is tailored to the individual. Some players need a kick, some need a cuddle. Elano comes into the 'cuddle' dept, being told he is valued and will get his chance can go a long way with the obviously more sensitive Elano. Other players, like say Richard Dunne need telling straight 'sort it or you're out' as Kevin Keegan did with him a few years ago. The trick as a manager is to work out who needs what.

Anyway, I'm resigned to the fact that he will be given time, so me may as well support the guy. The transfer window opens next week, and I'm sure Garry Cook and co have been busy over the last six weeks or so trying to sort deals out for the players Hughes had on his wish list. I can't see us sacking him now and waste all that work.

So, the next month is gonna be exciting and interesting at this moment I am actually feeling quite positive about what's gonna happen in the window.

Trust the owners, if not Hughes. They promised big things, I think they'll deliver.
CTID KEEP THE FAITH

That pretty much sums up how I feel.

I would just add this though. Is it likely that this guy will be holding the Champions League trophy aloft for us in 4 or 5 years? Not a prayer. So I am convinced we have to get rid of him. The only question is when. And whilst he sticks around, maybe he will bring in good players, but if players like Elano (and to a lesser extent, Jo) are made to leave, I will be sad.

I've got agree with you on this. Like any job, be it a building site, office, or service, within a week you can pretty much go round the room and identify the ‘gob shite’, ‘lazy sod’, ‘brown noser’, ‘grafter’, ‘eager puppy’ and ‘steady Eddie’. Management is about brinkmanship as much as discipline, and I think he has messed this bit up in a big way. He hasn’t read the ADUG situation well and it’s unravelling on him each week. Sure, players might be fretting over their futures with all the speculation about new signings, but you work with what you’ve got until you can make the changes necessary. And if that means indulging certain elements for a short time to get the results you need, that’s what you do, not alienate them or create splits. Just tell them they’re great and everything good, basically lie through you’re teeth, then get shut at the first opportunity, i.e. January.

Before transfer windows came in, Managers were able to make instant changes, bombing out the dross and getting ready replacements at will; not having to wait six months. Players either got on board or they would be out, literally within weeks of the new manager arriving.

I would like to have faith but it has already been proven that we can finish top 10, look at last season. Now this squad hasn't got worse has it? we've got a superstar and a few more awesome players but we are in the relegation zone, to me that means mark hughes isn't upto the task or sven was a fucking god. Take from it what you will

If we had another 6 points nobody would be complaining that much as we would be knocking on the top 6 door, I personally don't thnk it's time to get the relegation cries out yet, we've still got half a season and a transfer window and lets face it we've been in worse situations. I thought top 6 at the beginning of the season and still do, if we win a cup or even have a decent run it will be a good start to a season which nobody realistically should have expected much more from. It took time at Chelsea and they had a lot more of a base to work from.

Fully agree with the top post regarding villa. People forget how they struggled to score and only had one decent centre back, but given time, and a check book with a manager with an eye for talent, they're now pushing for a champions league place. I'm firmly in the hughes camp , and how many managers is it since bacon face took over, 12 and counting. I'd give him the season and then make a change if he really isn't up to it. I believe he will get it right, after all, people said last week how well everton did to win with no recognized striker, but we haven't had a decent striker all season. What a difference caicedo made when he came on, someone with just maybe half an ounce of get up and go. However where i cannot understand hughes is in his perserverance with richards at the back. I was going to create a separate post on this but why doesn't he play nedum at centre-back. Richards has been a liability all season and in the last two games, even the most blinkered of richard dunne haters will have seen how he just let his man go for a free header. Dunne was excellent yesterday, one mistake and the reason i think he's had lapses of concentration this season is that he's had to cover for richards, basically doing two jobs and mentally when it comes to the right decisions, that's tough. So why is richards so poor. For me, he's always had no positional sense but his speed always got him out of it. I think he's carrying at least a stone too much muscle and its affected his movement. He must be dropped for hull and nedum replace him.

Agreed

But we don't so like what exactly?

Shall we pretend we have another 12 points and pretend we are in the mix at the top?

Do we get the option of adding 50 points at the end of the season and pretend we are champions and hold a pretend victory parade in a pretend open top bus and I get to pretend I am sleeping with Sarah Michelle Geller (hey I was a big Buffy fan so sue me)

Meanwhile back in the real world...
