Balotelli

Chelsea are in the process of signing an 18 year old who was top scorer in the Belgian league for 18 million. Do you seriously expect anyone to believe that they would value Balotelli at almost 4 times as much?

Neville is the player who still played alongside Cuntona after the intentional karate kick on the fan,he is the same player who still played alongside the pikey after ending alfies carreer with an intentional attack yet still finds time to dig at Balo.I dont recall Balo attacking a fan or breaking another players leg yet hes the brunt of all the media and scum loving pundits bile.

And Blues on here fall for it every time.. oh yeah cuntona and keane were older than twenty when the attacks happened.. Ive proof...honest.

They (like it or not)played football and gave 100% something we will never get off this embarrassment(rolling round on the ground yesterday) of a player he puts us in the headlines for all the wrong reasons his time will be short hopefully

yes lets get rid of a player cos he rolls around on the ground then eh.. Imagine what would happen to Barca if they did that..

Mind you, your post does have me rolling around on the floor... :)

fucking shocking comparison sam harris.

to even mention balotelli and barca players in the same breath is embarassing.

the barca players are consistent, and have awesome work ethics. balotelli has zero work ethic and is about as consistentas my bowel habits after a madras. he needs to step up now .no more fucking about , start performing.

my patience is wearing thin.

would LOVE him to perform this year and bang them in though.

I've seen a lot of your posts now Mancio and they range from telling absolute whoppers to general insults towards well respected posters who are GENUINE fans of the club.

I think Mancini should have played Balotelli yesterday against the rags. I'm sure he would have made all the difference.

Ive said it before and i will say it again....he is a fucking usless lazy twat....i would have bellamy anyday.....nuff said

I disagree with the assertion from some, and seemingly in part from Mancini yesterday (although his comments are open to interpretation, especially considering it is not in his first language) that Balotelli has to work harder for the team by tracking back and doing defensive duties based around keeping a strong shape.

I actually think he makes a half decent fist of it. Certainly as good or better than a lot of players who are seen as 'flair players' or 'mavericks'.

Watching the game back from yesterday, Ray Wilkins makes a bullshit point about him not tracking back and exposing Kolarov. However, it was based, as far as I noticed anyway, on a single instance, yet he took it, as the very worst pundits do, to be indisputable evidence of something that happens every time. As is the case with Sky pundits, a lack of research, weight of evidence and real study makes most of their assertions irrelevant.

For me, he does enough defensively. No more than just enough, but enough nonetheless.

My issue with him and where I think there is a huge misconception with him is what he does in attacking phases of play.

There's no doubt that he is a gifted finisher. HE's shown that on occasions here and certainly earlier in his career.

However, he is not a prolific scorer. He can score spectacular goals with powerful shooting and sometimes impressive finishing that are beyond some players. However, he shows no signs that he can become someone you can rely on to score 20 goals every year. He does not get into enough positions to allow himself those opportunities.

Yes, to some extent playing wide hinders that, but he too often shows a lack of desire to constantly worry defences with clever and incisive movement over a sustained period of time. He is too easy to mark.

But, as I say, he is capable, undoubtedly, of scoring goals that are generally beyond most. Unfortunately, even when a player is capable of that, they, even for the very best players, don't occur that often. You cannot base your game around being able to score a quality goal every so often.

So what else does he offer? Well, for me, there is little else that is truly exceptional to his game. As stated previously, he doesn't have outstanding dribbling, isn't a gifted passer of the ball (Someone mentioned him in the same breath as Bergkamp and vision before, FFS!) and doesn't have the vision of a playmaker. He is decent in the air but no-one bases their assessment of him around this quality.

I would like to think that when Mancini refers to him having to work harder for the team he is not referring to defensive effort but what he does when City are in possession.

His movement needs to improve hugely. He needs to show a desire to be involved in 95% of attacking moves, even if it is just by making the correct run to rely occupy and threaten a defender. At the moment he is too often found looking like someone who is not involved in certain attacks.

Most of all though, I'll return to what I mentioned earlier.

It is a crime that he so often gets possession, assesses what is on, realises that there is no chance for the spectacular and visible loses enthusiasm and casually plays an easy ball with a lack of concentration.

The best players, when they realise that there is no option on for them to penetrate and that they have to release the ball, do so with concentration, accurately and measured. What might seem like a simple 10 yard pass sideways can , depending on whether it arrives with pace or slightly in front or behind a player, be the difference between the receiving player being able to immediately look to penetrate or the defence having that split second to set and reorganise their positions by a metre or two each.

Until I see Balotelli understanding that his job, most of his job when he is playing wide, is about ensuring that the team attack with urgency and 100% concentration in every attacking phase, then I won't have any time for him. At the moment in attacking play he is playing for himself and his highlight reel and not the team. Never mind the defensive duties. His contribution to the tempo and attacking thrust is not there. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that he is far too often hindering the team in attack, rather than in defence.

(A lot of people disagree on this, but for me Anelka did the same thing when he was here. It really annoys me when a player shows the signs of wanting to play for himself rather than the patterns of the team. Barca continue to prove that ego, when it causes you to consider the spectacular above the best option for the team in that particular move, is harmful to the very best teams.)

I can only offer a quote from Alice In Wonderland:
"Alice laughed: "There's no use trying," she said; "one can't believe impossible things."
"I daresay you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was younger, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast."

Mancio = The White Queen.
