Bands In Small Venues

Fish at the Academy 3, can't remember the year but do remember sitting on the bar at the back of the venue and just turning around for a top-up, Fish asked me to buy a round for the band, think I called him a cheapskate and told him to buy his own, but I'd been drinking and the details are hazy

Used to be regulars at the, now sadly defunct, Moles in Bath. Whoever did their bookings had an eye for good new bands and Oasis, the Smiths, Housemartins & Blur were among them.
Inevitably, I didn't see any of them but I caught Chas Jankel (with a quantity of the Blockheads), Blancmange, Eddi Reader, John Otway and a host of quality local bands. 100 ish capacity and you had to walk passed the keyboard player to get to the toilet.
Happy days!

Moles was a fantastic venue, punched well above it's weight. Didn't realise it had closed for good :-( just read that the council decided not to give it Asset of Community Value status, so it could end being anything. Real shame.

Never thought of it before but the FTH and the Apollo have/had roughly the same amount of seats even though to look at them you'd think they had a hell of a lot more.

Not sure PT are that famous but they were certainly good when I saw them at the Ritz.

Oasis and Pulp at the Boardwalk, both in front of about 100 people, or less. I saw Sonic Youth there too around 1985.

I was at the Rage Against the Machine gig at the Ritz in ‘92(?). Support band were Tool. Me and my mate had never heard of them so stayed and had another couple of beers in The Salisbury.

My mate dragged me out one night to go and see the up and coming Catatonia at some pub in Derby. Support band were some scruffy scouse cunts who were absolutely terrible. About three weeks later they were on TOTP playing Female of the Species.
