Barry is still good enough

I would be surprised if anyone who saw most of the CL quarter final matches, and especially anyone who watches the semis and final, still think Barry is ogood enough.
There may well be much better out there, but there isn't yet anyone better in our squad who is better than Barry at what he does when he is fit and on form. I think that's the point of the OP. He hasn't got many good years ahead, but if Garcia and Rodwell finish up as good as him at his best - which they may if given time - I'll be happy enough.
Was v good against the scum, and as they're supposed to be the best at the moment....

Barry is definitely the best we have to play alongside Yaya at the moment, our team is better with him in it without a doubt. But the OP thinks he should keep his place for next season, which on the contrary I think it's Barry's place, along with someone like Hazard, we need to address the most. We may have beaten the Rags but they didn't exactly do too well in Europe either, and I don't think anyone would fancy our chances against any of the current semi finalists, which is realistically the level all this investment is aimed to arrive at (technically winners of the whole competition, but the difference in quality between all the semi finalists this year is so small it really is anyones).

I have always been a big fan of Barry, even when he was at Villa. He understands the game so well as he has experience of most aspects. When he started he was a left back, but he also played centre back before moving to left wing and centre mid. He also used to get a lot of great goals as well as slotting Villa's penalties.

At his very best he was criminally ignored by Sven when he used to claim we never had anyone to play left midfield and put Gerrard there instead. It was obvious to anyone with a brain Barry was the answer but Gaz must have been parking his car in Nancy's garage to be so invisible to England.

Yes he has lost pace and not scored as many goals as he should probably have done, but he is a fantastic asset for this club and if used sensibly can continue to contribute for at least a couple more seasons.
