Barry is still good enough

Some sage on here once said no-one knows just how much Gareth Barry does, until he's not in the team. Consistently excellent last night. Deserved to be MOTM IMHO. I'd be happy to see him sign a one year extension (with a view to selling him in summer 2014, when he'll be 33).

Gaz had Carrick in his arse pocket all game and he totally controlled the centre midfield last night.

He reads the game very well which counters his lack of pace.

Gareth Barry showed last night what many of us that watch him week in, week out know very well: He is a fantastic footballer.

His work-rate, intelligance and sense of responsibility on the pitch are first class. Good tackler and has the nack of mopping up loose balls in the edge of our own box time and time again. Showed last night (contrary to popular belief) that he can pass a ball too.

"You think Barry's shit,
We know that he's noo-ooot.
You all think Barry's shit,
We know that he's not"

MoM last night and everyone around us agreed, he bossed the midfield allowing Milner, Yaya and Nasri to play their games.

My MoTM last night as usual read the game well in right place at right time and plays the simple game

Yeah absolute class. Was well up for it and all over the pitch.

Sorry but I just don't see why Carrick is meant to be so good.

All season, every season I hear how good and 'mature' he is, yet whenever we play them he is invisible!

He's been a fantastic servant -the £12m paid has been a steal and he deserves to see the last year of his contract out (as a squad player) - the signs of slower mobility have been starting to show this year however, owning giggs and carrick is no biggy in my book, both make baz look quick, its when genuine pace comes at him where there's a problem!

He was magnificent last night, and tends to do better in the big games.

However, he is too slow and not the top level for European.

Alonso and Khadeira are not the fastest players in Europe.

Pace is not required for every position.
It's less the amount of pace Barry has and more that he doesn't handle being pressed as well as he could, which is not great against the better European teams.
