Barton: Anyone could manage Man City to success

Joey Barton has attempted to downplay Roberto Mancini’s achievements at Manchester City by saying anyone could manage the mega-rich Sky Blues, the Daily Star report.

Barton’s former club have won the FA Cup, qualified for the Champions League and are leading this season’s Premier League campaign but the QPR captain believes there are bigger challenges in football than the one facing Mancini.

The midfielder said: “He’s done well – but I think you could have done that job with that amount of money!

For me, the test of a manager is not managing Man City but managing a Birmingham or Nottingham Forest – a club that doesn’t have a great deal of finance,” he continued. “That’s when you find out who the true managers really are.”

Prick

Yeah, like when Mancini managed a bankrupt Lazio and a bankrupt Fiorentina to both cup successes and record league finishes.

I'm not a fan of Barton, and a big fan of Mancini, but what he says is mostly true.

Success is all about money in the Premiership, so it's difficult to say who is, and who isn't a great manager. Good management might only be able to move you 1-2 places either way in the league.

Ferguson is undoubtedly a good manager, but the recent tributes ignore the fact that for the last 15 years of his 25 year stint as manager, United have had more money than any other team in England. If he'd been as successful over that time, while having the same amount of money as the other teams in the division, he'd be something very special, but he's only been competing against 1-2 teams each year, not 21.

Mancini is now in a similar position. There are 18 teams in the Premier League that we are expected to finish above because of the money - it's our record against the 2-3 at the top that will show how good he is.

Barton's ALWAYS had too much to say from the day he made himself spokesman for Man. City as a precocious 17 year old. He talks SHITE!!

Easy blues, after I read the whole thing, I didnt think it was anything more than a tongue in cheek comment. He followed up with this -

"After what we’ve seen them do at Old Trafford, it would take a brave man to bet against City.

I was watching that game with United, who are a fantastic football side, who won the Premier League and reached the Champions League Final last season – and I’m thinking the power has turned.

Who from the United side would get into the City side? Maybe two or three of them."

Hes a twat (for many other reasons) but this is typical press spin on an innocuous comment.

He didnt even watch the game as i remember him being in shock in the tunnel after finding out the score from a fourth official or something

Was it only shown once, and you weren't allowed to record it or anything?

Only this.

Come on blues - typical journo scumbag spinning an interview to suit 'the agenda'. Joey may be a knob and shouldn't have said what he did, but don't bite on the journo's bait.

Joey talks out of arse. Mancini has used this squad very intelligently and his rotation system is keeping a lot of the players fresh and for the most part injury free.
