Basel (H) Post Match Thread

Pep should play a stronger xi next time and drop half of that lot who he trusted tonight.
Stones needs putting in the EDS.
If we are 4-0 up after the first leg away, with a CL SF place at stake and the PL in the bag, I think you might be right. But then again, so is a broken clock...and that is right twice a day!

Where did I say we played well?

We were poor by our standards but the over reaction on here is ridiculous. Amounts to everyone is shit and get rid.

Look how well Zinchenko has played recently and out of position. He played badly tonight and gets ridiculous amounts of criticism.

I get that mate but it's a post match thread not a season review so people can say what they like about his performance. I'm not gonna single out any players but a few tonight won't be starting games any time soon. Doubt peps too happy either.

Of course you can say what you like and you have.

Why do you get so upset with others doing the same?

is it because they dont agree?

Job done , no injuries , players rotated , youngsters getting game time against Champs league opponents , decent crowd , and only BT sport made an issue of the defeat , TEN of those players would not have started tonight if we had played our fully fit squad available , perspective is required , we ticked all the boxes tonight apart from a narrow meaningless defeat We are through to the quarter finals , Spuds are not , Chavs will not and the Rags may not get through , and maybe a bit of credit to Basle thought they came with an excellent attitude and with some good support . Not gonna start digging out individual performances , there were too many changes to produce a cohesive game and it ended up all a little disjointed. All our big players will be fit , fresh and well rested for the Stoke game , so not the disasterous night BT Sport are trying to promote .

Decent work out for the youth. Felt a couple of senior players took it a bit too easy.
Think YaYa is sadly no longer useful, the odd cameo when winning for a decent send off and a PL medal is fine by me.

Result unimportant, going through with as little fuss as possible was ideal.

The only disappointment for me, was it could have been a wonderful night for Foden, sadly it was a bit if a damp squib.

Into the quarters, hoping for Seville in the next round.

On the BBC:

21:51
Man City 1-2 Basel (agg 5-2)

"Safe to say that Manchester City fans won't be crying over their own 2-1 home defeat as much as the Spurs fans..."

Not so sure about that.

Eh...

No one hurt: check
Younger players who might be complaining about playing time put in place: check
Opportunity for Pep to "coach up" some players: check
Through to next round: check

Mission accomplished IMO.

What do people want from stones tonight? Run through and score? Harsh to blame him for 1st goal, boo blame whatsoever for 2nd. Passing so much better 2nd half. Seems people have decided that if he didn't play outstandingly well, he was shit
