Basel (H) Post Match Thread

Proof if ever was needed that to have any chance of winning this fucking thing, our first 11 needs to be on the pitch fit and firing because 90% of the rest of them are average players. Stones days are numbered at city now and I think he knows it, he's had plenty of time to get his shit together, looked like he had turned the corner pre Christmas , sadly that has been a false dawn. Bravo never makes a fkn save, its unreal when you think about it. The 2 youngsters along with sane and Bernard can be exempt from criticism, they rest need a good fkn kick up the arse. I Still see nothing from Jesus to suggest he'll ever scale the heights that Kun has. Disappointing night.
That’s just simply not true is it. Our first eleven wasn’t on the pitch, not even close and guess what, we’re through. Disappointing yes, not exactly end of the world stuff.

What concerns me is this is what is going to happen once we win the league.

Games we heavily rotate in, stroll about in and then come CL time we can’t get back to our best.

Perhaps Pep wants us to lose occasionally, to give others hope and not just park the bus.
I think Pep will be using this result as an example of what can happen when you are complacent.
There will be quite a few videos being shown to players illustrating their errors and a lot of hard work ahead for some.
Pity we lost our unbeaten home run though.

Everyone knows that though. Pep knows, he knows. All the fans know. He is going in the summer. No point over analysing him. He has been great for us but time has caught up with him.

The bigger concerns are the ones who aren’t going who don’t step up when they come in. Stones must have been sat on his arse getting splinters for the last few games, watching the lads lifting a trophy at Wembley and his last performances are Wigan and that one. He needs to up his game sharpish because he looks like a nervous academy player playing his first game at times.
I’m hoping the footballing brain is as good as the silky looking technique, because at times, when looking at his decision-making, it makes me wonder.

At the moment, he is a clear 4th choice at the back....and that is with Tosin not getting a look in. Needs to not get quite so twitchy or try to make that diagonal 20-30 yarder that can get picked off. Three choices: to another defender/midfielder who is open and clearly visible for the pass, turn and give it back to the keeper and make yourself open for the ball back, or hoof it down the field into the right or left channel. Everything else is dangerous at the moment, because he doesn’t seem to have the confidence of his convictions on the ball.

Some city fans can't just be happy. We crushed arsenal 3-0 2 times this week and last champions parked the bus against us and we totally dominated them. Yet people moan.

By no means all his fault, but we are so pedestrian when Yaya is the midfield general
He's still a great technical footballer, but it's nearly always sideways and backwards. He just doesn't drive us forward any more
I thought Zinchenko had a stinker of a game and Stones and Laporte really were strangers

@Ric tweeted that out of the starting eleven tonight only Sane would play in our strongest team
We'll maybe, but earlier in the season Stones would almost be first name on the teamsheet, Jesus was played ahead of Aguero in the derby and Bernardo has hit form and would challenge Sterling for his place, so even if some players were rusty they should have performed much better this evening

Again what this game proves is that we really miss KDB

Those spitting their dummies out over this match seem like the same who spit their dummies out over a loss in pre-season.

We won 5-2 on aggregate. We rested 1st team players. The kids had a good run out. We're into the quarter finals.

Let's not forget 15 points clear and a cup already won.

One bad performance and you have people on here calling players like Jesus as shit and fans booing in the stadium.

Its not about where we are in the league or having won the carabao cup already. It was a poor and uncharacteristic performance from city. Whats so wrong abt pointing that out on a football forum? It was a second string 11 but u still expect them to fight and with silva, sane, gundogan, jesus, and toure in the 11 we should have done better and shown more ambition than we did.
