Basel (H) Post Match Thread

Pep will be furious with that performance tonight. His high standards were nowhere near met tonight by a number of players.

Just got back , last eight, Foden getting a full game more or less , Diaz getting twenty minutes, thanks for the memories Yaya , key players got a rest , one trophy in the bag , a second within touching distance , it’s not a bad outlook is it .
Apparently you should be furious and demanding your money back!

Gundogan continues to frustrate the fuck out of me.

He should be capable of taking a game like tonight by the scruff yet he barely ever broke the lines and moved with the ball.

Very irritating.

Not sure why pep took Gundogan off and left Yaya on. He might not have been playing brilliantly but at least he was mobile.

I very much doubt it. A bit disappointed that we didn't move the ball that well but otherwise I should think he's quite happy that we've picked up no injuries, rested players and given some fringe players a run out. I suspect he'll lose zero sleep over it.

It was the right decision imo as Gundo only needed to be playing an hour, Yaya is fucked/finished so no problem letting him play the full 90.

I'm sure he'll sleep well tonight. He doesn't seem the type of manager who ever wants to lose a game and whilst there were positives, as you mention, he'll certainly be thinking very carefully about some of the individual performances tonight.

Are people really getting huffy about tonight? Not unexpected given the team we put out against a team coming to prove a point and also one that habitually gives English clubs a tough time.

Not a great performance but not really a bad one, a valuable run out against decent and motivated opposition for youngsters and players coming back from injuries needing some minutes on the pitch.

No risking injuries to most of our key players and through to the last 8 with very little drama, cant really moan surely.

Disappointing result sure, and whilst all concerned would have liked a win I am not sure the result was the biggest priority tonight.

Whom, in particular, do you think went down in his estimation tonight?
