Basel (H) Post Match Thread

Can't understand the moaning on here. We are through to last 8, top game management by pep, lots of fresh legs on Monday, no injuries and Good game time for youngsters and fringe players.
Ok, some maybe didn't play that great, but take the core out of any team and there will most times be issues with how the rest play.
I'm happy, and you lot should be too!

I’d agree. I just thought there was a longer list. Laporte made Stones look bad, by comparison. Calm, collected, correct decision-making, and putting a tackle in every now and then. Stones needs to BE the 6 footer he is, rather than another David Silva. It is one thing to be able to play a bit with your feet, but as a CB, his primary job is to stop the advance of attackers, and defend set pieces and corners. He is not particularly good at either one, and this game did nothing to move him up from FOURTH on the pecking order, imho.

Probably not the game to single our deficiencies player wise the second half as a team we were poor but if I was to it would be Bravo, he gives the back four no confidence at all is poor in his decision making basically because he is too slow in setting up the play from the back and above all a poor shot stopper , that second on his near side albeit a result of shocking defending in the lead up to the shot was the only time he was tested in the second half and he failed as he often does.

We certainly need a better second string goal keeper that will put real pressure on Eddy to perform the way he has for much of this season next season , this is as important if not more so over the summer than a replacement for Yaya and another striker of much better quality than Nacho will ever be.

Manure's current goal keeper stocks are better than ours and once again their stand out player of the season keeping them in Europe and in the hunt for a Chumps League is their goal keeper and while his number two is a decent comedown he is more reliable than Bravo.

Once again Bravo showed he cannot add the value a keeper needs to perform at in this side and the way Pep has set up this side to play and why Hart had to go.

Disappointing performance and result. Some very mediocre/poor performances from the squad players. Whilst it hurts me to say this the legend that is Yaya Toure shouldn't be allowed a first team starting place ever again. Painful to watch!
Thought Brahim Diaz had a good cameo but Phil Foden was a little off the pace.

We were dreadful tonight!

Possibly the worst home performance in Pep’s short reign. Only Sané and Diaz got me excited all game. The two full backs and centre mids had very poor games.

Pep was visibly disappointed n’all, Zinchenko and Danilo were holding their hands up apologising to him on the pitch in the second half as he was getting up every time they gave it away.

Think it’s best to forget about that performance.

Rubbish, a "better second string goalkeeper" would not be prepared to spend his time on the bench.
Bravo was at fault with the second goal but he plays the keeper as sweeper system that Pep likes.
Not many keepers can do this.

Let it go with the Bravo hate he played well ......Unless this is a wind up and I have been wooshed

He was poor mate and should have saved the second with ease , this is not a hate Bravo agenda he is not suited to the side as a back up and would be very surprised if he is not shipped out in the summer.

He gives the back four little confidence because of his hap hazard decision making when we back pass it to him and I wish we hold a higher line when we have the ball when he is playing so we avoid having him in the play as often as he was tonight.

said in the pre-match thread that i felt basle would fancy themselves against that side and seems i was proved right. i know we dont have to worry about a side like that turning up in the big matches to come, but makes me worry a bit about some of the players in the squad. Lastly, Yaya shouldn't wear a blue shirt again

We weren't dreadful in the first half but second half yes.
We were however playing a full reserve side (apart from Sane).
Still not good for the fans who turned up on the night.
