Basel (H) Post Match Thread

There were a few problems tonight but the main one was Toure. Good job it didn't matter

I’d agree. I just thought there was a longer list. Laporte made Stones look bad, by comparison. Calm, collected, correct decision-making, and putting a tackle in every now and then. Stones needs to BE the 6 footer he is, rather than another David Silva. It is one thing to be able to play a bit with your feet, but as a CB, his primary job is to stop the advance of attackers, and defend set pieces and corners. He is not particularly good at either one, and this game did nothing to move him up from FOURTH on the pecking order, imho.

So we lost a game which had no purpose.
Who cares.
Would people have rather won at the expense of injury to one of our critical players? Thought not.
On the positive side our youngsters got an outing and we rested our first team.
We have much bigger fish to fry in th coming weeks and if there ever was a game we could afford to lose that was it.
Looking forward to Stoke.

Nah, mate, you have just seen him at his marauding best. Tonight wasn’t the night for that, nor do I think he has much of that left in his locker.

I will look forward to seeing him play against Huddersfield and to giving him a brilliant send off, but his time is clearly up and his wages will go a long way towards filling that gap in midfield.

Are people really getting huffy about tonight? Not unexpected given the team we put out against a team coming to prove a point and also one that habitually gives English clubs a tough time.

Not a great performance but not really a bad one, a valuable run out against decent and motivated opposition for youngsters and players coming back from injuries needing some minutes on the pitch.

No risking injuries to most of our key players and through to the last 8 with very little drama, cant really moan surely.

Disappointing result sure, and whilst all concerned would have liked a win I am not sure the result was the biggest priority tonight.
Spot on mate.

Oh god, please let that be the last game he ever plays for us. It’s sad to witness. Players running past him is one thing...that’s always happened, but his insipid passing today was probably the biggest reason we didn’t create anything. Sideways, backward, backward, sideways, losing us all momentum.

Shite performance from the reserves but nothing to worry about at all. It was just a disappointing run out for some players who needed better games, like Stones and Zinchenko. Diaz looks better Than Foden to me.

Only one of that team would make our strongest 11.

I thought they were decent first leg so knew if we played weakened team it would be a struggle.

Not to worry though we have to take these opportunities to rest it was a training session.
