Despite the fact of being a punk, it had to be R.E.M. , the pistols had one album with a couple of great memorable tunes on it, they went tits up, R.E.M. on the other hand numerous albums with nearly every song on each album a memorable pop classic there's no contest, fucking loved their album monster when it came out

R.E.M. were my favourite band. I've loved every record and they are the whole reason why I became a musician. I've seen them live 4 times and had the pleasure of meeting them. One of the best bands ever IMO.
