Bayern Munich (A) | Post Match Thread

Wonderful result from City, and done with maturity, if not the usual standard of passing excellence. Central defence held very strong, Haaland excellent presence up top.

Bayern did exactly what they needed to, lots of pace, front foot aggression and twatting us on the wings. They hardly let up until about the 75th when the belief began to finally fade. I have to say, any sort of Lewandowski figure and we might have been looking at a closer scoreline...

City suffered at full back, but who wouldn't with that pace against them, but i was so impressed with the core. Bayern had chances, sure, but we made our share for the away team. City did perfectly to try everything to slow the game down, getting caught in possession multiple times while doing it, but they stuck doggedly to the task of trying to slow the pace down throughout the whole 90 and that is a credit to them.

Dunno what was going on with the pitch, but players going down everywhere, crucially once when Upamecano slipped for our goal and secondly where their player slipped through on goal forcing a check back. ah well. Sack the groundsman.

Yes, felt the same. Tactics Tom knew he had no chance.
Tuchel made a fool of himself and his antics transmitted to his players who lost control in the second half. He showed he is not mature enough to run an elite club and just got lucky at Chelsea. His behaviour was pathetic attention-seeking.

Tbh most of the comments on the football itself (not the ref etc), Pep would probably agree with. He said himself afterwards that this was not a 4-1 tie, that he doesn’t feel better than Bayern just because we went through, that the champions league is always a “coin toss” and last year we lost the coin toss, this year we won it (so far). Tuchel’s tone/attitude I hate, but some of the points aren’t exactly false. It was fine margins and they probably did enough for about 4 goals over the 2 legs. But that’s what this competition is all about - moments. And in the big moments, we were there. It was in general a very closely contested tie but we were very solid and good in both boxes, particularly at home.
Bayern had plenty of possession in both games, but in the first leg created hardly any clear cut chances and Sane was their main threat with shots outside the box.

An example from last night
At the start of the second half when handing over to the commentator, Humphries, or should I say "Humfreiz" said "Bayern need at least three goals to take it to extra time"
A truly English supporting broadcaster would have said "It's all in City's hands Thy just need to keep Bayern out"
Well bayern did need 3 goals to take it to extra time I have no issue with them saying that lol its a good job they didnt say bayern need 4 goals to win, youd be really rattling then. They are the most enthusiastic of commentators but I've noticed there quite the same whenever they commentate just boring and dull in my opinion and not biased.

Yep, I like to think I hold my natural paranoia in check (as a person, and as a City supporter). But Stephen Warnock was doing it on the BBC website, as well. I began to get really tired of it. He was making comments like “Bayern are well on top”, “Bayern have only got to get one goal and it could change everything”. You'd swear he was supporting the Germans!
Another oddity: he was announced on the website as “former Liverpool player”. Looking it up, I see that he actually made forty appearances for Liverpool, eighty-eight for Blackburn Rovers, and eighty-four for Aston Villa! I mean, what the actual…?! I'm not saying it's his fault he was presented that way, I'm sure it was the choice of some managerial editor for the beeb. But what it amounts to is communicating, even if only subliminally, “This is his qualification for giving his opinion on here, this is why you should pay attention to what he's saying.”
Sick to death of it!!

I always thought Bayern would be the biggest threat and I still think so, serious pace going forward, no team has given us that many issues all season and Madrid won't either. Sorry if that sounds arrogant but I really think they were the best team aside from us left in it.
It took our midfield half an hour to get to the pace of the game, gundo and Jonny struggled but once we got a foothold we looked like we were the better side. Temper any criticism of our side with the fact that they are a very very good team.
