Bayern Munich (A) | Post Match Thread

BT continually bigging us up to create the 'favourites' narrative in the hope that we slip up to create the drama they crave.

Absolute hypocrites as last night they were talking about how Munich would do us. Hargreaves actually said if Bayern score first then all bets are off. Funny how Inter went 1-0 up (3-0 on agg) we were told by BT that it was game over. Just hope that the likes of Zaba and Nedum are available for BT for both semi finals, don't want any rags, Owen, Hargreaves etc anywhere near the TV

Top Top Performance, if Haaland scores the pen that the first half would of been perfect.

I get we always want to dominate games, out score the opponent, have all of the ball, but we've seen year after year that's not what wins this competition, it's performances like these, real have been doing them for years.

We played against probably the best team in Europe this season other than us, 100+ goals, 8/8 in the competition before they met us (in a group that contains one of the other semi finalists) and we only conceded a goal because of a horrible pen rule/call.

They were always going to have some chances, that's just what happens against this level of opponent, it's about ensuring they don't have a lot of them, or the chances are hard, which I think for the most part we did do.
Exactly but the media seem to think that this was our fault - don’t give any credence to the fact that Bayern are a great team with great players - so should have chances. But no comments on the fact that over 2 legs they couldn’t score from open play because WE WERE TOO GOOD FOR THEM.

I didn't think BT were negative towards us either, I'm sure some people just sit there listening sometimes waiting to be offended by something.
I'm more than happy when they are just neutral, as they are supposed to be.
Where i think there is a difference is when Utd or Liverpool play they have ex-players who give very one sided commentary & are sometimes anti City in their comments.
Fuck that, i'd turn it off if Micah or similar was commentating on our games, it's not a fucking fanzone ffs.
Just neutral commentators , with no agenda, would do for me every time

A good referee is almost 'invisible' during a match. Last night's ref was anything but imo.

Tuchel was understandably frustrated by Bayern's failure to score and reacted badly, but the ref couldn't wait (imo) to book him the first time, when a stern warning could have been given.

It's things like that that give the impression that the ref 'wants to be seen'. Personally, I thought he was over dramatic and self-important throughout the game.

All about opinions I suppose. It's in the past now.
A good referee does his job without fear or favour. This was a crucial quarter final match, with the home team being under pressure to perform & turn around an unlikely result. Of course this match was gonna be played in a cauldron like atmosphere.

I really fail to see exactly what the referee did wrong, outside of just doing his job?

I understand what you’re saying. I turned the commentary down because they were irritating me but when I rewatched the match I left it on and realised that, for the most part, they were being fairly neutral, which is what commentating should be all about really.
I suppose when we are on edge with Cityitis we tend to overreact a little.

There are times, like yesterday on the BBC site, I get really irritated though because we were hardly mentioned and the whole day seemed to be mainly about the Chelsea meltdown. Yes it’s important but not for the whole day! JMHO.
It took them til the 67th minute before saying anything positive about City.

I think, and hopefully I'm right, that we have just come through our sternest test. With the first leg away in Madrid and then a one off, I'm more than confident in our great club.
I said prior to the quarters whoever progresses from the City v Bayern tie will win the competition.

I stand by it, although the reality of facing Real Madrid in the semis again does make me a little nervous.

Strange atmosphere in work here today......its like someone has died......nobody in the mood too talk footy today.....no idea why???
This is some of what I had to listen to today in work from Rags:

Bayern had some amount of chances last night.

Bayern are nowhere near what they were.

AC and Inter Milan in the semi finals is a joke.

Upamacano is shite.

Real Madrid were terrible against Chelsea, They won't beat City.

The penalty City got was a joke.

I didn't see the penalty that Bayern got.

I turned it off after Haaland scored.

I didn't watch it.

I turned it off after Haaland scored.
Hence why broadcasters keep saying the opposition could still come back into the game, so as to keep viewers glued to their screens.

I had Forest vs ManUre on in the background last weekend. As soon as the Rags went 0-2 up, I switched the telly over.

Subconsciously, I probably only left it on in the first place in the faint hope the Rags would lose.

Eeez futball... \0/

Mate, he was just being factual & as a broadcaster maintain the viewers interest.

You'd be surprised how many neutrals will switch off thinking it's over & done with, therefore losing BT viewers & revenue.

I fail to see how this comment can be highlighted as anti-City... It's like some of us are on the lookout for offence.
All evening it was about what Bayern had to do
It may have been factual but it was all about Bayern
Due to RM's history in this competition and how they knocked us out last season and Chelsea this, let's see if the the semi final pre match will be all about RM or about what City need to do
We all know it'll be a Madrid love fest
