Bayern v City post match thread

david silva the glue that knits it all together, make no mistake if our Spanish maestro had played the home game we wouldn't have been so outclassed, an absolute genius of a footballer, his ability to play between the lines, retain the ball, bring other players in, and an eye for the killer pass are a joy to behold, he could play for any team in the world.
Thought it was just me who saw this. Whenever I mention it,I just get a look like I'm from mars.
No team is going to look forward to playing us in the knockout stage,I reckon if we'd used the same
tactics as last night at home,we'd have won that group comfortably. Bring 'em on!!

I did say that if SIlva plays we got a chance. And that our second team is strong. Not surprised by the win. Well done to the lads, they made the fans proud. That horrible performance at the Etihad can be forgotten now.

So to sum up the reaction in the press from last night. Clueless City embarrassed in Munich while the mighty reds overcome Russian giants!

Sounds about right to me!

Strange game. Maybe it was all too easy for Bayern or we just got rid of our nerves after their 2nd goal and started to unsettle them. I think the introduction of Zabaleta made us feel more at ease and up until the moment Silva got of we were the better side. It was a historic win because of the fact we played without Kompany-Nastasic-Yaya-Aguerro and took on an in-form Bayern at their hometurf. Very proud and a big positive towards the game on Saturday.

Not sure anymore how the ruling is, but I do hope Pellegrini is right in the end so we can give it to the media.

As for the ones that so proudly say we had 4 English players in our team tonight, it was just Milner -as usual- who can accept plaudits for his performance on the night. Richards is simply too much muscle and seems not perfect for topfootball. Hart did ok, but the usual mix-up was there again, as for Lescott, simply not good enough. I was happy we had at least one Spaniard on our side: Silva - class act.

So.... All along MP was right, I need to stop 2nd guessing myself.

Sadly No. 'From games between the teams in question' means just our home and away games against Bayern, which would have been level with a 4-2 win. Away goals in those games is the next criteria, and with a 4-2 win, ours would have been 7, whilst Bayern's would have been 6; all meaning, we would have progressed.

That doesn't happen until letter D. In letter B, between Bayern and us, Bayern had the better overall goal difference.
b) superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams in question;

It means head-to-head in the two matches between City and Bayern.

The UEFA rules state that; If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the following criteria are applied to determine the rankings (in descending order): a) higher number of points obtained in the group matches played among the teams in question; b) superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams in question; c) higher number of goals scored in the group matches played among the teams in question; d) higher number of goals scored away from home in the group matches played among the teams in question; e) if, after having applied criteria a) to d), teams still have an equal ranking, criteria a) to d) are reapplied exclusively to the matches between the teams in question to determine their final rankings. If this procedure does not lead to a decision, criteria f) to h) apply; Look at point e). Goal difference in the group applies before GD between teams.

A 4-2 victory would have left us in second place on goal difference
Not at all sure about that.

Result: 2-4
Teams in question: City and Bayern, both on 15pts
a) 3pts each from the two head-to-head games
b) Both have 0 goal difference from the two head-to-head games
c) Both have scored 5 goals in the two head-to-head games
d) City top Bayern on away goals, 4 vs 3

It is not absolutely clear what "the teams in question" means. If it means all teams in the group, then a) is redundant. Or put another way, a) is the primary criterion for deciding ALL positions in the group and the above are the criteria for deciding all positions in the group

Edit: Ah, I get it now. I think. b) is to be read as "superior goal difference in the group table among the teams in question".

I think we need someone to come out and tell the world exactly how the criteria are applied.
