BBC licence fee

Aunty Beeb is 100 years old this year, instead of celebrating her she'll be taken out the back and shot.

Ultimately Brexit was it's downfall. They were trying be to be all things to all people, that's fine for entertainment but not for news. They ended up accused of being too far left by the right and too far right by the left, too many opinions aired not enough factual reporting, but who wants facts when emotion is a bigger driver.

Funny that the right go on about cancel culture, then go about cancelling that that promotes the best of British culture. But you know...some bollocks about Jimmy Saville.

Might have already posted this, but the amount BBC spent on IT contractors I.e. project managers developers was a joke. Worked for BBC in 2015. Fuck me they were paying 800 a day for Project managers working 10 to 4pm in white city. And they took the piss. Made me quit, morally was wrong knowing that it was funded by the general public.

Fuck BBC.
That’s cheap for a project manager in IT.

I do like some of the radio content quite a lot, how would that work under subscription? i assume picking up via normal radio in the kitchen would then be impossible?

People on here and twitter aren't getting the principle.

I'm hearing "It's only 43p a day" or "£12 a month".

We are in 2022, why should we be enforced to sign up to something some of us NEVER use - it is a bonkers ideology.

It isn't a Holy Grail people are making it out to be. Name one good sitcom from the past 10 years..

5 live is toss- they're turning it in to outrage radio to compete with Talk Sport.

If Sky Sports has bias drivel then fine, I've chosen to pay for it. If ITV sport is biased, I don't care. But when BBC sport headlines are in favour of the Dippers / Rags then that's annoying as we're forced to fund this shite.

People will keep voting Tory unfortunately.

Nothing more rotten and toxic than cronyism which this mob is renown for. They've made their pals richer through dodgy contracts during the pandemic.

As you know I'm not a fan of the BBC but let's have it right, the tories are attacking the beeb to suppress criticism of the government, not for the good of the public.

The BBC is far from perfect (as with most large institutions), but personally I would prefer to pay for it through a license fee than not have it. Current Affairs, Drama and Science & Nature are generally all top notch.
What I would say however, is that I would not be averse to some content being part funded by selective advertising, in particular mainstream sports such as Football, Tennis, Golf, Cricket etc. Or shows which are highly lucrative e.g. Strictly, EastEnders, MasterChef/Bake off, Top Gear etc.
Whilst I know the non publicly funded channels are likely to be opposed to this, I don't see it as being any different to the BBC selling its content to the US TV stations, Netflix or earning revenue from Britbox.
Assuming they don't spend the savings on celebrities (yes I know it's a drop in the ocean relative to the BBC funding issues but still galling none the less), it would then allow the BBC to focus more of their public funds on producing niche content.
