BBC licence fee

Tories attacking it's shadow supporter, labour standing up for an organisation that has never been remotely neutral let alone socialist. Left is right and right is wrong??? The image of a plum-voiced spokesman/presenter in evening dress reading from a script in front of a microphone is still flickering in the background, the top table still solidly mono-cultured establishment centric, still defending the system that got them there. For me, the doctoring of the tapes of the Orgreave protest, was unforgivable, imprisonment for not having a licence the same. The non-protester who was assaulted by a Met policeman and subsequently died, the BBC turned down video evidence repeatedly, until it was all over American television and papers, shameful. Until the dependence on gov't funding ends, any pretence of "public service", apart from the weather reports is a stretch too far.
The bbc, despite everything, is less malignant than anything murdoch-controlled, hardly a vote of confidence but there's nothing else.

Or, in the real world, the BBC was respecting the laws on sub judice cases, which foreign channels did not have to do.

That's purely subjective.

It is a matter of opinion that BBC is "better" than other entertainment/educational outputs. That's not enough to justify a forced payment for a service many don't even use but must have to watch live TV on other formats.

Yes that would be subjective and a matter of opinion. Given I didn’t make that point or give an opinion of it though, not sure if you’ve replied to the wrong comment?

Netflix offers dramas, films, sitcoms, films, topical documentaries. So it is a fair comparison.

Whilst Netflix doesn't offer educational services. I know BBC champions quickly default to this point from their "protect the BBC" crib sheet. There's plenty of tutorial aids from other sources online and on YouTube which don't enforce a subscription on to the population.

It was also teachers who went above and beyond and improvised to deliver lessons virtually whilst also hosting lessons in school for families of key workers who helped deliver education in lock down.

So let's not pretend BBC education was some lockdown saviour. BBC presenters on top whack are hiding behind this deluded idea to protect their income.

Of course it isn’t a fair comparison, bbc covers a much wider range of content and media than Netflix does. That’s why you’ve added non Netflix content yourself in the comparison.

I’m not arguing about the quality of it or that there is content available elsewhere for a lot of what the bbc does, I’m just pointing out their services are much much bigger than Netflix so comparing their cost points doesn’t really work.

I'd support them because until 2016 they were brilliant, and also any "enemy" of the current governement and its gammon supporters is a friend of mine. But I'll never forgive them for the false equivalence of their Brexit coverage. "First we have the chairman of a giant export company to tell us about the problems of leaving the single market. Now we have Brenda who owns a flower stall in Boston to tell us it will all be fine if we just believe".

They have the country's blood on their hands but now they are in a vice gripped by Johnson and the rest of the Vote Leave government.

This represents pretty much what I feel, and then I remember what the rest of the BBC does, and does so well, apart from news and current affairs.

What makes me laugh is how blues on here complain about the obvious click-bait approach of the on line sports section, with reference to City in particular. What do they think would happen to that if the BBC were required to go even further down the road of self-funding?

Almost like this is a 40 year old Conservative talking point to wheel out whenever they’re in trouble

This is from 1986 when the BBC actually provided value with funny sitcoms (including OFAH) and test cricket was free to air. You couldn't make a point like that applying today's offering..
