Beatles documentary “Get Back”

Is that the Monkees who had a huge hit with a Neil diamond song. And didn't play their instruments ?

Peter Tork and Mike Nesmith could both play. I think it quickly became a real bone of contention that they (Nesmith and Tork) wanted to play on their albums, but the record label wanted to carry on using session musicians, didn't it?

Yeah I think those 2 could play a bit, how well I don't know, but they weren't really a band as such. Davy Jones was more an actor.

Have you read "Tune in - vol 1", Mark Lewisohn's epic Beatles tome? Only takes you (from 1940) up to the end of '62, but the detail in it is amazing. Still waiting for "vol 2" some 5 years later!
Lennon was unquestionably leader of the gang through the Hamburg years and on through to about '65, when McCartney started to really hit his straps. McCartney was infinitely superior as a musician IMO, but Lennon gave the band their edge, and the dynamic between the two of them was extraordinary. The ultimate demonstration of a combination being exponentially greater than the sum of its parts.
The McCartney/Harrison friction is well documented, but after watching 'Get Back' I don't think the Lennon/Harrison dynamic was any less testy, and if I'd been Harrison when Lennon started sneering in his face about "I me mine" I'd have told him very forcefully where to go.
Yeh, the music thing and the City thing go hand in hand, don't they? The Beatles and City have both been life-long obsessions for me and if I ever had to give one of them up, I'm not sure which one I'd choose!
I've read Tune In. Parts 2 and 3 will take another 10 years or so for Mark to finish writing.
If you're a Beatles fan it's a great read.

Unfortunately not that I can see. It looks like it wont be released on dvd/blu-ray either.
Isn’t it too early to know that re blu-ray? I can see why, at the moment and in the short term for marketing reasons it might be in Disney’s interests to downplay that possibility, but have they categorically stated it will never see the light of day in that format?

I spoke to a friend who’s brother works in the streaming business and apparently no streaming services are open to the idea of allowing dvd release of ANY products that they have the sole rights to. I can understand to an extent because they want to make the most money possible but it feels very unfair on the rest of us.
It was the same with the Scorsese film The Irishman - Netflix flatly refuse to allow dvd release now or in the future.

Ok mate, cheers for that info. Not great news, but thanks anyway.

One thing I always think about the four of them is that they don’t sound Scouse, or should I say, they don’t sound like modern Scousers

They were grammar school boys, a very good grammar school apparently so maybe the school encouraged them to speak without the strong accent.
Also Mimi had a posh accent and didn't like John sounding working class, she didn't think much of George apparently because he sounded Scouse.
Pauls Dad also encouraged Him to speak well.

Lennon and McCartney grew up close to each other (geographically) in Woolton and West Allerton respectively, the former of which in particular is a fairly well to do suburb by Liverpool standards, and certainly compared to Ringo who was an inner-city boy from The Dingle. I lived there for a decade a long time ago and there have always been two very distinct Scouse accents, the harsh, flem-flecked acky-dacky of 'Scotland Road' and the much softer lilt of the Wirral and posher outlying suburbs like Woolton and Crosby
