Beautiful towns

Whitby is brilliant for all sorts of reasons.
I'd also throw in Helmsley in Yorkshire and Cartmel in Cumbria, both have loads of character and decent pubs. With the odd crap shop thrown in for the misses.

Stopped in Helmsley today on a school trip to Sutton Bank's white horse, I agree! Whitby is a good shout also

I never understand why so many like Whitby. At least half of it is grim. Robin Hoods Bay is far nicer, in my opinion.

Other towns I like, Holt (Norfolk), Sheringham (Norfolk), Boscastle (Cornwall), Lewes (Sussex) and Sherbourne (Dorset).I have a real soft spot for Harrogate.

I very much like Beaumaris on Anglesey. It's got the lot, sea views, mountain views, a castle, an old prison, a fascinating old church, a hotel that Queen Victoria stayed in, a pub that Charles Dickens visited, and a couple of decent "normal" boozers too!

Beaumaris is nice but possibly jaded by familiarity for me. Some very good restaurants now, as has Menai.

Whitby is lovely too, used to day trip there as students. Not much revising happened on those trip, just mooching and relaxing. Robin Hoods Bay is beautiful, went there with an ex boyfriend. Or Knaresborough or Alnwick.

And all of them within a couple of hours drive of Manchester.

Whitby is ace! Great pubs. Hen doos from middlesboro. Love robin hoods bay too. Remember Mrs ww the first walking from the top of the village to the bay inn in a pair of high heels.

Middleham is a nice place for a weekend away. Where mark Johnson trains his horses.

Is the one in Arundel inside an old railway station and absolutely fucking massive? Does it have big fuck off leather armchairs next to an open fire where you can sit reading and taking the occasional sip out of your hip flask?
If the answer is no then it isn't as good as http://www.barterbooks.co.uk/
Keep calm and carry on. You hairy little fucker.

Does it have loads of rickety staircases that seem never ending with rooms of full to the brim with books?

Thought not.

Troon Is a lovely wee town if I don't say so myself ( yes that's whre I stay ,) gonna be hectic with the Open next week!

Some nice towns in the Peak District, and not to long a drive from Manchester area, Buxton ( stock up on the spring water for free!), Hathersage, Bakewell ( home of the Tart!)
In the summer the Peak can be beautiful ( and bleak in the winter!)

Buxton is lovely, I also like Matlock

Glossop is decent too
