Becoming an author..

As the author of 4 published books...

Go to a book shop or library and write down the names of publishers of other similar books and contact them with details of the books. As someone said don't expect to retire to Hawaii on the royalties....
The self published way can be good. Take the books to your kids school and ask their teachers what they think of them and see if the school will buy copies. If they do then take the book to other local schools informing them that your own kids school has ordered x amount of copies and would they be interested too.
Use of social media... Are there facebook groups for childrens books? If so join them and again take orders from around rhe world. Use Twitter and other forms of social media
Ask at libraries if you can do a reading of your book on a certain night or afternoon.
Different ways to get the book out there and known about. Self publishing can lead to a bigger publisher picking it up and offering a deal. Send copies to local radio and newspapers etc.aiming for an interview or feature

No Idea I'm afraid pal but always wanted to do this myself, unfortunately I have zero imagination and although I'm well read, my spelling and grammar leave a lot to be desired.

Best of luck, if you can crack it can I have some free copies ;-)
That Julia Donaldson is amazing!

If you write more both will improve. Getting it proof read and edited can sort out any of those issues. Nobody has zero imagination. You could start just writing short stories. I donthis on my phone, then decide if any could be extended.

It’s also good to read things after a couple of years. It lets you see how you were thinking and it’s like your journal. Even if you never publish them, it’s you in written form and a good way to remember shit.

Give it a go. Write about what you know. If you don’t think it’s goid enough who gives a fuck. You will enjoy it.

PS if you become famous remember I encouraged you to try and give me a shout out on the telly. :)

Money would be better, but a shout out’s a start.

My father in law published two books, he used Olympia Publishers if this helps in anyway - he was an accountant before that so has his head screwed on but then again I married his daughter. Check writers forums. Think there's an Absolute Write one on the internet.

Hi all,

After some advice. Ive wriiten a couple of childrens books and was wondering if anyone on here has managed to have their work published.

Anyone know the best route to present my efforts?
Have you let kids read them?
Send them to me, missus always says I'm a big child. Eldest is mad into books as well (wonder where she got that from) so you'll get a second opinion.
