Being English

No it isn't......where have I said that?

You didn't tbf.

I was more mocking this mental line you provided "i'm hoping the new English will treat the old English as well as we've treated them."

Bonkers.

Anyway my eyes and burning, I'm going to sleep. Night pal, god save the queen.

In short, THIS is Rome! Be Roman!

I hope that helps. If not, you know where to find me.

Try telling that to the Native Americans!

I am certainly no apologist for America's indiscretions, no matter how or who perpetrated them. Otherwise, as an English citizen, I might have to apologize to half of Africa, the entire Indian subcontinent, the Scottish and Irish, etc, etc, etc....

Maybe we should all just claim to be citizens of Vaalbara and live happily ever after?

Dammit now I have to Google "Vaalbara" but the name alone would suggest a definite maybe!

I'm left wing and I bloody love England!! (For those saying because of left wingers we can't say it etc).

I think the general gloomy outlook in England is exacerbated by the media who every single day tell us what is wrong with the country, instead of highlighting the good stuff!!

I posted this in the Woolwich thead, I have put it in bold because I'm egotistical and happen to think it was good post! :)

"In a world where different groups and religions are at war with each other the fact that different groups can live here in England side by side and can wear different clothing if they wish, worship different religions, have different customs and besides this can just generally get along every single day is fantastic.

Is it perfect, of course not, but the fact for me is that in Manchester I can be an atheist with an Indian Hindu mother and I can drive through towns and see Churches, Mosques, Sikh Temples and Jewish ones etc, and yet I find we can all live pretty peacefully and come together at the Etihad to scream at the rags - this to me is pretty good!!

I have British subject in my passport, as we all do, so the Queen owns us!

I personally couldn't give a stuff about the fact I'm English. I'm neither proud or ashamed of it. I just happen to be English because this is the country I was born in, and I don't remember choosing it as my preferred option.

I don't have much time for nationalism. I take people as they are, and I usually like them. I have travelled all over the world, and have come to realise over the years that we are all the same.

I'm as bothered about being English as I am about being a fish, frankly.

I had no idea you were a fish, mate!

Nice job on the typing, because that must be REALLY hard work!

What kind of fish are you? Hopefully, a Bluefish, me old cockle!!

I'm a left-winger. I like England. I'm not a patriotic person in the slightest and think the country has many issues which need to be dealt with as a result of thirty years of Thatcherism. However, I still like driving on English country roads, drinking English real ales in English pubs, a fondness for English industrial and labour history. I feel an attachment to England but not to being English. I'm not even slightly bothered by the fact that there are fewer white faces per brown and black faces than there used to be. As for ChicagoBlue saying Manchester is not the same as it used to be. No, it isn't. Manchester when I was growing up was a derelict industrial shithole. The transformation of over a decade's worth of development has been remarkable and Manchester is not regarded as a success story again.
