BELLAMY - I COULD QUIT FOOTBALL

By Andrew Baldock, Press Association Sport

Craig Bellamy has not ruled out walking away from football if he is ditched by Manchester City.

The Wales captain faces an uncertain future at Eastlands and is by no means certain to be named in manager Roberto Mancini's Premier League squad.

Bellamy, who is set to line up for Wales in Wednesday night's friendly against Luxembourg in Llanelli, revealed he has rejected an offer from German club Wolfsburg, who are managed by former England boss Steve McLaren.

But he is also prepared to fight tooth and nail to be part of Mancini's squad, even though the signs do not look good.

Bellamy is set to win his 59th international cap in Wales' final game before starting their Euro 2012 qualifying campaign against Montenegro early next month.

And he is keen to make an impression.

"I feel strongly that I can offer something at the club," the 31-year-old said. "But if I don't get in the 25-man squad, I don't know what I will do.

"I might finish, full stop, or look at every option I get.

"This game is as ruthless as any. I sort of feel I am not going to be part of it (at Manchester City). I can see it from a distance.

"I find that very difficult to take because I really enjoy playing for Manchester City. I think I have shown that with my commitment this year.

"I've had a few options. I've turned down Wolfsburg. I don't fancy Germany, it's not somewhere I see myself playing football.

"I have to see what options I have. I am here to play football.

"With this 25-man ruling, it doesn't matter how well I train or how good my attitude is, I might not be registered to play.

"So do I go without playing football until January, or do I find myself a club where I can play football?

"I am committed to stay where I am. I feel I deserve to be part of it, but I don't pick the 25 or the team. I have to wait on their decision."

Re: Bellamy on his future

If I was Bellamy and I wasn't named in the 25 man squad first thing I would do is consult my lawyer and take UEFA and Prem League to court in breach of freedom of trade has contract to city but inelligible to play because of a ruling by the two governing bodies. Wouldn't be surprised if he won and the whole thing fell apart.

Re: Bellamy on his future

I would love Bellers to be in our 25-man squad, but I have this nasty feeling he won't be.

He has been a credit to Manchester City since the day he arrived, but I believe he will be moving on before the end of the month, unfortunately.

i think that could work

Re: Bellamy on his future

I have a horrible feeling we'll keep Jo over Bellers which is ridiculous really.

I'm not sure that would work. He'd still be earning money (albeit without match fees and goalscoring bonuses) so his "trade2 isn't really all that restricted.

As for Bellamy's comments I can't see a problem with what he's saying. Essentially he's saying "I'd like to stay at City and fight for a first team place/contribute to their season, but if I'm not in the 25 man squad that isn't possible so I'd look to move on/retire". Not bitching or moaning, simply stating the facts as he sees them, which is pretty much how most people would see them.

Re: Bellamy on his future

Can anyone remember a player who was so universally disliked as much as he was before he signed.
The fact that he turned that around to make himself arguably our best player for a huge part of last season and is now near the top of most City fans favourite players list is a huge credit to his professionalism and ability.
I hope he makes the 25, he is a credit to the club.

Re: Bellamy on his future

I don't have an opinion on whether Bellamy should be part of the 25 but....if Vieira is selected ahead of Bellamy (or Ireland) it will make no sense at all to me.

Re: Bellamy on his future

Shouldn't have behaved like such a twat to the new manager, then, should you, Craig?

Shame really, because you didn't stop performing on the pitch. Just burned a bridge unnecessarily.

Of course, it could all be part of the exit plan to force the club to accept spurs' next derisory offer.
