What was the concert venue at BV called, went to see the Jackson 5 there when Jacko was the lead singer he mustv been about 12 at the time
Kings Hall

There was Kings Hall which was like a huge round tent / marquee and there was Queen Elizabeth Hall which was a room for conferences / exhibitions / gigs (see The Clash / Siouxsie & The Banshees youtube clips I have already posted on this thread.)

The Kings Hall also hosted the circus and it was after one circus that Shirley Bassey performed at and vowed never to perform there again after her changing room and indeed the stage stank of elephant shit!

Kings Hall was huge, at least it seemed that way when I was a kid. I still remember my dad telling me to peg it to the bar(and there was about 5 of them) during the interval and get in the queue so he could slurp a couple of pints before the next bout. This was when drink driving was still socially acceptable. I doubt we'd have got out much if it wasn't.

I was there myself, great gig.
i went to the faces concert used to have our works christmas partys there and when i was a kid used to go to the circus at christmas from fredrick street working mens club happy days

when Rocco Forte took over everything doubled in price, visitors halved and the end was hastened, maybe that was intended. Fantastic while it lasted, coaches from all over the country, the speedway track was the best and fairest in the league, the wrestling had a big following and the fire-works were tremendous. Always spent my bus fare on the slots and had to walk home, never learnt

My dad used to take us there most weekends for the wrestling. I've seen all the old greats of British wrestling at Kings Hall. Even saw the Dynamite kid when he was a skinny little fucker before he went to America and pumped himself full of steroids and when he was one of Big Daddies tag partners in his regular tussles with Giant Haystacks.

Other notable things which happened at Belle Vue. A lion pissed on my gran and my mum got flashed by a bloke with a huge chopper.
The lion mustv had a huge chopper as well to piss on your gran, werent they in a pit like enclosure or was that the bears, memorys going now

Saw Rod Stewart at The Kings Hall (Supported by The Motors) in 1978...

I had a similar experience when I was taken to the zoo by my parents, uncle and aunt as a nipper. A huge lion turned away from the cage front and directed a hose-like jet of piss that got me straight in the kisser, to the amused delight of my family.
The twats.

Belle Vue was such a significant venue for Mancunians from the mid-1800s to the late 1970s and in some ways its legacy can still be felt today. Chester Zoo was created by a guy who had been a frequent visitor to Belle Vue as a boy and that gave him the interest to set up the zoo at Chester.

Also, from a City perspective Belle Vue was often the scene of City celebrations. Post-homecoming parade celebrations took place there, plus the first ever floodlit Manchester derby was staged there in the 19th Century (to aid victims of the Hyde Coal Mine disaster).

It was also often viewed as a potential new home for the Blues (2 sites - what became the old speedway stadium & what is today's dog track/speedway stadium).

Plus I remember (just about) visiting Belle Vue as a kid with various members of my family. My granny worked there for a while as well. We also went to the circus every year until it closed.
