Defensively, Mendy surprised today. He was much better than I ever expected he could be in that game. He and Laporte have that understanding and I was well pleased today. Ok, going forward he was nowhere near his best but that is secondary in games like this.

Grew into the game, a bit rusty at times especially early on but that’s expected. Proved that he can defend today, now needs to focus on staying fit.

Far from good but at least he mainly stayed back. Which means we could mainly start him and the best left winger in the league rather than waste the best right sides forward too whenever Mendy plays!

Gave possession away far to easily today and that will piss Pep off , he needs to take more care with his passing , no doubt of his crossing qualities against the lesser teams and he mainly kept Salah quiet , but for £50m we should be getting the finished article , not a player who consistently gives the ball away , if Delph is fit then he should be the left back in the tight games against the top six or top european games

Maybe we're a better side with Mendy in and Sane out and that's why it continually happens when Mendy is fit. If that's true then it doesn't bother me in we the slightest. It's up to the players to show the managers that they are the right choice to start. We absolutely boss every game that Mendy plays in (in a way I'd say we bossed the game vs liverpool too). If not for a bogus result vs Wolves the team clicks with him in.

0-0 Liverpool
2-1 Newcastle
1-1 wolves
6-1 Huddersfield
2-0 arsenal
2-0 Chelsea

2-1 bournemouth
5-0 liverpool
4-0 feyenoord
6-0 watford
5-0 CP

You can't use a couple of 5 game spells{not counting the friendly when they both started} as proof when a team wins as often as we do anyway. Plenty of those games we didn't even play well and were against shite teams. Watford was an exceptional performance to be fair but we had some natural width on the right that day as Sterling was out wide. That Newcastle home game we were very poor and had no width as Mendy had clearly been told not to bomb on. If Mendy isn't constantly out of position then I'm sure him and Sane can start together anyway. Just needs to learn how to defend better!

Not buying any of that, cos we boss nearly every game we play in regardless of who plays. Mendy gave the ball away cheaply by playing it infield straight to Liverpool players several times yesterday, leading to potentially dangerous counterattacks, and he did the same thing against both Arsenal and Wolves, where Traore had him on toast. Yesterday was probably his most solid defensive display, but from an attacking standpoint give me Leroy any day of the week, and particularly when the opposition is sitting deep and the space to charge forward and whip crosses in is limited

We bossed the Chelsea game completely 18 shots to 5 at wembley.
We bossed Arsenal at emirates 17 shots to 9.
We did well enough at liverpool to deserve three points and let in 0 goals.
We should have beaten wolves 1-0 at their place and I think they'll finish 6-8th.

If he was such a liability then surely it should have been more than 1 goal let in?

We'll just have to agree to disagree.
