Had some good moments. Had some less than good moments.. Some really incisive passing, clever movement and balls into the area. Some increasingly sloppy and weak defending, and a few positional errors to boot to. But you can see he's playing a much more tempered and safe game than he used to, which tells me he's at the minimum not reckless to the degree some are claiming.
I've also learnt that you can't fully judge a player until they've had a full and uninterrupted year with Pep. Particularly Otamendi, Stones, Sterling and even Aguero at times were players that in Pep's first season weren't too popular and often criticised as not being good enough whilst they were getting up to speed. Then the next season they shone. Happened with Bernardo a year later too initially. A fair few of us were left with egg on our faces.
All I'm saying is, give him a chance. I know it's fun to say how you don't rate a guy and whatnot but if at this stage, after everything's that happened in the last 2 and a bit years, you can't afford him a modicum of patience and optimism then I'd implore you to at the very least give it a try. He's young and had injury problems don't forget, on top of it all.
Also not to be that guy, but in the derby at OT Delph played a big part in their equaliser. And in the game at The Etihad he played a big role in Smalling's winner. I'm not against Delph playing by the way if that's the decision, he's great. But to suggest he's a significantly safer bet defensively than Mendy to the point where it's worth not playing Mendy for that reason alone, is as far as I'm concerned reactionary.
