I thought he was ok against Soton. Maybe a few errors but also had some great moments.

Mendy is a huge defensive liability - unable to read positions, incapable of consistently stopping crosses, frequently giving the ball away either due to careless passes or because an opponent takes it from him, often beaten on the dribble by opposing players of average skill. This probably isn't going to change (by much) in the future.
ManU are a wreck - so even if Mendy starts - we may not be punished. But in close games where the opposition is intelligent enough to spot our weaknesses and exploit them - God help us if Mendy starts at fullback.
Mendy is world class going forward though - his crosses lead to numerous goals - hence his amazing assist totals. Pep is a genius - so maybe he'll find a way to leverage Mendy's abilities without exposing us to his obvious defensive shortfalls.
