Hope im proved wrong with this as i like the guy and on his day he’s electric. Such a shame too to cop for 2 such long lay offs ... but ...

I get the feeling its not going to happen for him at City. Some players, for one reason or another, just dont get a good run and i fear Mendy will be one.
I think we look better with Sane flying and Delph covering anyway.

But i wish him a SPEEDY recovery all the same

I think that Mendy is more important to the team then some realize. Last season we had trouble breaking teams down. There were lots of games that we won in the last minutes like West Ham at home, both Southampton games as well as Huddersfield (we drew at home). This year with Mendy to the left basically playing as a wingback with either Sane or Sterling and Silva linking up and overloading the left side it gives opposition real problems. I like Delph but he doesn't create that as much. So we may be better in defence, but may also struggle to score as well.

Another season written off at this rate. Looks like we're going to have to buy proper cover (ie attacking left back) as he clearly has issues and he's such a big unit is likely to be prone to impact injuries. Perhaps like a horse he should only play on soft ground.

Yes but we still could have drawn a fair amount of games if we hadn't scored late. We also beat Chelsea last season by scoring only 1 goal each of the games because of how Conte set up. Pep knew that when teams put a low block on it can be hard to break down. Against teams that were more open we were fine. We've been a lot more comfortable this year scoring early forcing teams to open up. Mendy has been key to that with his presence alone and his crossing ability. Silva tries to link up with Sterling/Sane in trying to break though the left side with Mendy as the alternative to whip balls in from the left wing if space is opened up.

Personally I think we’re better balanced between attacking & defending when Delph plays , he’s more of an anchor & we already have enough attacking players in the team to score , it’s not a problem I see, that’s why we scored more than enough without Mendy & i’m Confident we will do again.

In all the big games Pep has still picked Mendy even though it's obvious to see he's pretty bad defensively. He was bad against Spurs, but still Pep picked him to play against United. Pep knew United would try to sit deep so Mendy was a better choice going forward. We effectively become a back 3 in possession with Laporte and Stones shifting over and Walker becoming the 3rd CB when we attack in the final 3rd. I don't know the stats, but it seems that we start our attacks more from the left. On the right Walker's crosses aren't as effective so we rely more on Mahrez's individual talent to get crosses in. You could be right and we may be fine. We will see I guess. I'm just trying to point out how Mendy has been more effective for us this season than people realize.

I'll trust the manager all day long before anyone on here. Guardiola loves the guy, and that's enough for me.

Oh, and he's the best crosser of a ball I've seen.
