Its truly incredible reading the comments in this thread, compared to those in Walkers. Mendy gives the ball away because he takes some responsibility and tries to influence our attacking play. If we had a striker who actually got into the 6 yard box (bread and butter) he would have had 3 or 4 assists in the last week alone and comments in this thread would be completely different. I am not saying there isn't room for improvement but he has got more about him than Walker will ever have, yet reading the Walker thread would have us believe that he is the best RB in the world. We need our full backs to get involved and Mendy is at least up for trying, Walker gets lauded on here for being quick and ultra negative.

Some great clearances for Newcastle yesterday. Looking up to pick a pass out when it a great position with time rarely enters his head. Smash it as hard as possible instead.

i think after 148 pages, the wisdom of crowds has probably summed up Mendy (in my head); a bit too erratic to be a world class left back.

As I said there is room for improvement. A lot of his crosses frustrate the life out of me but at least he is involved, he is there trying to support his winger and his first thought isn't always to pass to a centre back. Contrast that with Walker. Maybe neither of them are the long-term answer but they are what we have at this time and I much prefer Mendy trying to make things happen, over Walkers absolute nothingness.

He put 2 more brilliant crosses across the 6 yard line begging for a tap in, found Jesus with a perfect cross at one point, played a great cutback to Silva which lead to Sterling being put through on goal.

If you want more than that from a LB in one game then you're delusional. He created 3 scoring chances, and if the forwards were making the runs the should be, he'd have had several assists.

I can't quite understand the harshness here. I thought he had a decent game. His crosses were coming in steadfast, he worked hard and looked defensively sound. He at times looks a bit awkward compared to some of the other guys, but i certainly wouldn't say he was poor.

They're all selectively remembering the first 20 minutes where he was admittedly ropey, but forgetting there was another 70 that he was perfectly fine, if not quite good. After that initial shaky spell though he started to find his touch and put in some delightful crosses. Should have had an assist or two. People have already made their minds up on him though, and did so yesterday after 20 minutes.

Mendy said it himself; he wants to improve. For someone who's had an injury that 15-20 years ago would have ended his career, then it's going to take him time to be fully confident that his knee isn't going to give in at any moment (same as Gundogan). He's been holding back a little, but he's getting better with every outing.

I have no doubt that with a run or games he will be back to his best, and still have room to improve.

1 good game in every 10 does not a great player make.

Sorry but the lad does not do it for me at all and looks like bambi on ice with all the poise of a pissed up penguin at times.

I back Mendy too but honestly wouldn't compare that to Walker too much. Walker has been quite consistent lately with what Pep asks of him, Pep doesn't ask him play fullback like Mendy so you shouldn't expect that of him.

So I get why Walker doesn't get flack, he's doing his job perfectly. Mendy is doing a great job too. People on here love to complain all the time, people even hate on Gundogan when he has been great, no winning people over.
