This thread is going to be as embarrassing to look back on as the first few month's of Bernardo's after he arrived. You guys are seriously getting on Mendy for looking rusty after coming back from two years injured?
It's like people read through the Mahrez thread, saw all the people saying how silly they were to doubt him, and decided that there were no lessons to be learnt.

You seem surprised but not sure why. It's quite normal for BM .

Yep.
Maybe it isn't clear enough how severely knee injuries impact players.
But we know already it from doctors and from players directly:

after knee injuries like ACL you will never be the player you have been before.
Certain high risk movements have to be taken out of your style of play. Too risky.

Kevin and Ilkay have to control themselves NOT to go into tough 1on1s. Pulling out is the CORRECT decision. That's what it is.
That's what the doctors and Pep will tell them. They still are fantastic players who are key for our style of play
and who are making the difference to the rest of the football world.

Same goes for Mendy. He will never again be the forward bombing wingback. Don't wait for it.
Question is, what's left for him then? He still is a physical lad and has a positive winner's attitude
but he isn't the fastest on the first meters due to his anatomy.
Still he must have the same touch for cracking crosses for example.

In any case he still needs more time get better on a constant high physical level, injury free.
His confidence towards his body and his strengths will grow and he could 'nearly' be the same except for some risky details.

He definitely needs a sustained run in the team and to stay fit. Nobody is going to impress when only playing in fits and starts.
To be successful in this team takes a little getting used to as many others before him have proven.
My point is though, he’s a top quality player who if renains injury free will go on to prove a few doubters wrong.

I agree.

I agree but KDB never did his ACL.

My only concern was that he might lose his pace, he hasn't.

Im yet to see this famous pace when doing recovery runs however. My concenr with Mendy has always been (even pre injuries) is that in possession he is limited in his passing which then becomes predictable - how many times since he started playing again have we lost possession down to him and then been subject to a counter attack...the last one resutled in the penatly giveaway by Ferna....Walker was equally as bad that game as well

His crossing (which we know can be excellent) has so far been way off as well.

He seemed to link better with Leroy however though some thought that the two couldnt play in the same team

Didn't play against Norwich.

i was talking about the last game...it was him giving the ball away that led to ferna bringing down the player.....it was the champs league game

Watch him...he does it regularly every match and it leads to teams breaking on us...he isnt the only one but he is particular bad at it.

He seems to not want to use his right foot at all which reduces his passing options, makes him predictable and slow (in his passing) and easy to read. HIs passing can be very incisive especially into the strikers at the edge of the area which is great BUT his bassing inside (square) is poor....maybe it is sharpness but he was doing it before he got injured as well.

Watch at about 1.10/1.11 secs its Mendy that gives the ball away that leads to the penalty.

He tried to recover BUT after the pass to the man that is eentuay fouled he slows down and doesnt keep sprinting in order to cove behind Ferna whcih is what he should be doing.
