Benjamin Mendy (Back In Training)

Typical City to get a long term injury in the position where we only have one top class option.

I dont understand why people think Peps comments about signing someone in January mean its a dead cert terrible injury, surely we were after a second left back in summer anyway? If not thats just piss poor planning going into a 60game season with one left back.

Pep's comments also included a line about looking for an alternative left back in the summer and that now we may have to look at January instead.

All about timing of the comment, why mention buying a left back in Jan otherwise. Im hoping for good news, but the fact Pep even mentioned it makes me fear the worst.
He didn't, he was asked would we buy a left back in January. He replied IF he is out for a while we would look at it.

Shouldn't have sold Kolarov without a replacement first.

It's incredible the amount of time I see people ignoring the questions in press conferences. Context is everything.

Can't understand if it is a suspected ACL problem, why he was allowed to struggle up and down the steps on crutches rather than be wrapped in cotton wool nursing the injury at home or at the very least in a box where there were no steps.

Indeed he did - but surely our highly qualified doctors will have given Pep an initial diagnosis and be able to spot an ACL a mile off? Fair enough this Barca guy is a top knee specialist, but not everyone has to send their players to him for confirmation of an ACL tear.

Hopefully I'm wrong and we're leaving it all to the Barca specialist to look at.

Presumably Mendy will have been insured to the hilt, leaving us with ample funds to buy another left back in January. Also, in the mean time, aren't we allowed to sign a player who is out of contract. There must be one about somewhere in Europe.

Absolute cobblers a good 50% of matches someone goes off injured and 95% of these the injury is trivial.
It was a friendly match and no one watching could reasonably know the extent of injury or likelihood of recovery.

Check your facts, friendly or not, his knee was strapped before the England match began, his injury in the England match was not caused by a heavy challenge, there was an obvious weakness there, meaning his knee was not in a good shape.

Just when I was thinking that things were running our way this season.

Possibly the biggest impact signing of the summer in the area we most needed, and the ONE fucking position we didn't manage to secure the backup player for.

A player good enough for the PL just sitting around waiting for an offer! I don't think so.

Didn't fool Inspector Ducker of the DT! A more than sizeable chunk of his report this morning is about the Mendy injury and how 'the months and months and months' out will impinge very unfavourably on our season. But then goes on to make the point that Fabulous Delph was an adequate replacement. Delph will be a decent left back as far as defensive duties go, but I can't see him burning down the wing like Menders!

One thing that amuses me is the player scoring these people indulge in. If you add up the individual player scores Shaktar scored two more than we did! How does that work? Must be down to the one or two players who outscored their opposite numbers?

Just had a look at the article and the amount of subtle negativity is typical of the media in this country. A good professional performance against a half decent European side side and another clean sheet, so as no areas of play to criticise, I know lets concentrate on potential negatives instead.

its 2017 and if its a ACL then we send him to the best and the doc in barca who is getting great results in time scale and could be back at the end of the season long term ACL are now a thing of the past and we should not fear the worst but its a blow but like i said no big club should be a one man team or squad

we move on and we know pep is the master at seeing something other dare not dream about and delph was a master stroke and if gives sane and sterling a bigger run in the team at playing on the wing and delph just sit back we will miss mendy but come on chin up we just beat a very good team in europe last night without mendy

I would be staggered if there was any insurance. I would be almost certain that clubs like City because of the amounts involved would just take the risk themselves. It makes absolutely no difference to whether we can buy a back up because availability of funds is not an issue.
