Benjamin Mendy - City lose case and Mendy awarded £11m in back pay (p168)

Didn’t our accounts show we’d paid him up for remaining part of his contract? 18 million springs to mind for some reason (his wages or number of shags).
I might have missed that. I don’t think so but I could well be wrong.

Maybe the sum against Mendy represented the loss on his value?

We wrote off the remaining amortisation of his tfr fee in previous years accounts. This doesn’t relate to his salary.

City stopped his wages when he was jailed. There may be some liability for City to back pay this if he gets not guilty but I would imagine it will be up to lawyers to negotiate how much.

It's easy in retrospect to class Mendy as a bad signing, but I don't recall anyone saying that in his first few games for us when he was getting lots of assists and creating even more chances. Ignoring the off the field issues for a second, it was the knee injuries that did it and from when he did make a short comeback, it looked like he couldn't run properly and I'm not sure he'll ever be a top level footballer again, but the sort of thing that can happen to anyone.

Then there's the off the field stuff and without suggesting anything he did was illegal, it was questionable behaviour for a professional footballer, even an injured one. Won't be the only player to not behave in the best way off the field (not even the only City fullback!) but doesn't suggest dedication.
He might get a game for Strangeways FC soon enough

Thanks. That’s how I see it too. I remember the MUEN reporting that Mendy’s pay had been stopped and I can’t see City paying another penny unless forced by the Courts to do so.

Doubtful as it was his fault he got locked up for breaking bail conditions. I'm guessing he's not a Mensa level intelligent bloke.

Three trophies in three seasons and the semi finals of the Champions League shows Pellegrini wasn’t too bad at all.

The first season in particular was exceptional. I loved every minute.

One of my favourite seasons. 'The Beast' was exceptional until he hurt his shoulder and things started to go sideways for him.

Manuel Pellegrini was a fine manager.
