Like it or not, they're a top five league in the same way that Spurs are a top six club.

Well exactly. In the way that certain high-profile teams weren't good enough to get into the top four, so it was changed to 'the top six' to accommodate them. Similarly, it was always the 'big four' leagues until PSG got a bit of money. But make no mistake, they're way closer to the Dutch and Portuguese leagues than they are to the Italian one.
