Benjamin Pavard

He isn’t just don’t see the point of this signing. Said the same about Phillips last season and was shot down and told how he would provide competition for a starting place lol. How wrong they were. Treble winners and we’re scraping the barrel for bargain basement signings. No one saw this coming, it’s actually quite sad as we’ve been fed the premise we do our signings early lol. Now we’re told it’s only half way through the window. Something it’s right here
Walker is back up, Pavard would be coming in that role. Do you see the point now?

Yes signing Phillips was so bad, we only won the treble. We were so wrong...

As for bargain basement signings, you might want to head over to the Gvardiol thread because we are about to pay a world record fee for a defender. Is that bargain enough for you?

If Laporte and Kyle leave -

Ake Gvardiol Akanji
Ake Gvardiol Ruben Akanji
Akanji Ruben Stones
Akanji Stones

Looks quite good, until you realise it's five players. How on earth is that enough?

Pavard plus one in?

I'm still wondering about an LB/CB who would be more of a typical LB. Still think Tierney works that way.

Gvardiol and Ake can play LB/CB

Pavard, Dias, Akanji, Stones, Ake Gvardiol & Lewis is 7.

That's what my thing attempted to show. In order who can fill LB, LCB, RCB, RB, in the 4CB system. Of course, I forgot Taylor HB.

It's also in response to people saying Pavard isn't any better than our current players. Doesn't matter. We need the numbers. Lewis I hope to see more of this year, but he is definitely an RB and pep is saying 4CB's.

I’ve never really rated him and Bayern want rid for a reason. If it’s for cash for Kane, then we should go after Sane or Kimmich, bully them for a change. Players that instantly add or improve us. Pavard doesn’t improve us in my opinion.
The problem with Sane or Kimmich - they're not defenders, which is what we need if Walker does indeed leave.

I really like Pavard. Fits our new style far more than Walker does. His statistics are very impressive. Dwarfs Walkers in fairness.

I'd love Hakimi though.

I think of Rico as more of a midfielder than cb so see him rotating the Stones roll whilst working on his physique he’s 18 after all. And like you say can slot in at RB if we change it up.

I think THB gets another loan ir sell with buy back etc. was expecting to Burnley but not sure now.

Akanji/Pavard as RCB
Dias at CB
Ake/Gvardiol at LCB

Stones/Rico as the CDM/CB

Could argue Gvardiol could also play the stones role which I’ve called CDM/CB here.

If Akanji and Ake were to start both Pavard or Gvardiol could rotate with Dias.

That’s the point isn’t it, walker doesn’t suit a system pep now wants to use?
Not really sure it's that. Walker is great for what he is great at. Shutting down speedy athletic wingers.

But Pavard is probably a better all round fullback. I don't get the hate he is getting. He is a solid hard-nose defender with good technique.

He isn't flashy, but he is consistent. I'd definitely take him.

Agreed Dax, knows how to win things as well and coming into his peak years.

I've never previously been a fan of Pavard but if we do get him maybe he'll surprise many, just like other defenders we've signed in recent years.

Think back to when Ake signed many said he's bang average compared to what we already have, or that we didn't need him the money would be better spent elsewhere etc.

The same with Akanji many said he's bang average compared to what we have, beyond a few early mistakes both him and Ake have been resounding successes.

I've never really seen Pavard make mistakes despite always thinking he was overrated, maybe he's one of those players you have to see for your team to fully appreciate.

Bayern fans actually love Pavard which surprised me and the only reason they're replacing him is the same as Akanji at Dortmund, he's made it very obvious that he has no plans to extend his contract and he's moving on once it expires.
Always a good sign in my opinion if their Fans rate him highly and wouldn’t want him to leave (a la Bournemouth with Aké)

the only issue that i have with pavard is that he is known to be a bit of a knob and was also complaining about not playing in the middle while at bayern. His physical and technical attributes are elite

No I don’t on point 1, we were so lucky Rodri didn’t get injured otherwise there was no way we would have done the treble and yes Gvardiol accepted but not at the behest of everything else. I guess you are a Phillips fan boy based on your comments

We are so lucky that Pep is the manager, so lucky that Haaland can score 50 a season, so lucky that Dias and Stones are two of the best defenders in the world and you can go on and on.

We havent got a clue what would have happened if Phillips had played. Phillips fan boy, what on earth are you going on about.

This is precisely the summer to go big though. Lots of departures, need to refresh the squad after winning it all and the penultimate season to use Pep’s pull to bring in certain names.
Good point about the possibility of lots of departures and the refreshing of the squad. That definitely fits better with me because there is an expenditure and income working there. Not so sure about the penultimate season, there is nowhere better in world football for him to be and he he is still young enough to give the club game 10 more years. He loves to beat a record so I’m sure he will have Fergie’s 13 EPL titles in his line of sight!

Don’t forget this:

He said that after the charges to claim he wasn’t giving up. That has nothing to do with extending his contract. Since then, he has given hints in interviews that he won’t

Doubt that tbh. The only indication is he’s completed all his objectives as a manager. Now he will stay as long as he feels comfortable.
