Berlusconi on Pep, Balotelli and City

What will be interesting will be if the talk intensifies, how Mancini deals with it.

I'd say he's dealing with it by looking like the Wild Man of Borneo in his press conferences, and behaving like him on the training ground ;-)

Yay - and another pop at Mancini thread evolves with a little help form the usual suspects.
Big weekend for you guys - but steady - don't be too premature, keep a clean pair for Monday.

Win or lose - you win!! Must be great!!

I think his three years at City are equivalent to 10 years at Inter (and that eez a record!) Seriously, Bob is looking shaky and it's understandable. The odds in the league are stacked against us and Stoke away in the Cup looks made for catastrophe. If would lose at Arsenal and Webb does his duty at the swamp I think his departure is inevitable. On the other hand, Billy could be right, Percy might swivel his kneecaps and maybe we'll sign Maroune and go unbeaten for the rest of the season.

So 'Pep to City' now replaces 'Jose to City' which kind of makes a change as the 'Jose to City' has been running for 3 years now and was getting kind of old.

The thing I don't understand is if the appointment of the Barca duo heralds the arrival of Pep after his 1 year sabbatical why on earth did we offer Mancini a 5 year contract after Pep quit Barca and only weeks before we appointed the Barca duo?

But then I never knew why we offered Mancini a 3.5 year contract in the first place given Jose was already on his way to us back in 2010...

Very odd behaviour from the board

This, of course, is nonsense. There are other indicators of progress than more and more trophies every year. If not, the owners would be expecting us to win everything every year in three years time and presumably more besides. Our owners aren't stupid, they know what realistic expectations are.

They will also get rid of any manager whenever they think the time is right irrespective of whether he won a trophy that year or not. I would be disappointed if they didn't.

I like Mancini and would like him to stay, but if the owners decide he isn't the one, that's fine with me.

Not sure about Guardiola though. He was perfect for Barcelona, but we aren't Barcelona. Yet.

I am absolutely sure about Mourinho. I don't fancy that piece of work anywhere near our club. He is such an odious person he is better suited to United. Or Bayern. I would be surprised if the owners didn't feel the same way.

And if Mancini does the double?
He doesnt need to win the double to stay.
Well; unless he wins the league, he'll be on very thin ice. The owners are looking for year on year progress, and so far Bob has achieved that (CL, qualification, then the FA Cup, then the PL). I'm not sure winning the cup this season would be seen as progress, to be fair. Plus our poor performances in Europe won't have helped him. True; that was a demon of a group this season, but the actual ''performances'' (not just the results) were poor. Hopefully he'll win the league again for us.

I'd say you're right that this weekend it could be all over bar the shouting.

I actually fancy us to win at the Emirates. Whilst I've been heartened by the 442 of the last two games that Milner has given us, I'd say this is one for a 4231 comprising:

.......................Hart.........

Zab...........Kompany..........Lescott............Clichy

.......................Milner..........Barry..................

.......Tevez..................Silva...............Balotelli
...............................Dzeko.........................

I can't see we have much choice. I wouldn't want Garcia in the midfield against them, and can't see many other options with the available personnel.

Nothing has replaced nothing my old sparring partner. There's a thread about Mourinho further down the page. This one's about Pep. The fact both are men are currently being discussed probably says more about Mancini's position than it does about what was being discussed 3 years ago.

The thing I don't understand is if the appointment of the Barca duo heralds the arrival of Pep after his 1 year sabbatical why on earth did we offer Mancini a 5 year contract after Pep quit Barca and only weeks before we appointed the Barca duo?

My best guess because Mancini knew what was in the offing and with a title win under his belt and the assuredness that neither Pep nor Mourinho were available last summer, got his agents to turn every screw imaginable to ensure he got the best deal possible.

What did you expect City to say "sorry mate, you can't have a new contract. We've got a long term plan to replace you."

You can imagine Mancini's response "Hello Mr Rybolovlev? Yes, can you get that jetty ready, my yacht will arrive in a few days. And don't worry, I'm bringing my son with me so you get the gift of me and the gift of the natural heir to Messi's throne".

You might not want Garcia in there but I think you have to prepare for it.
