Bernardo Silva: “Something has to change. You learn who you can go to war with, first of all"

I hope they do give a fuck.

For the last ten years we’ve had players, a team, and a squad that do give a fuck, hence why City have won so many trophies.

However, I think there are some players who have possibly thrown in the towel as they aren’t getting regular game time, and are happy to train and to collect their wages.
Or they are physically and mentally drained from 4 full on seasons

‘For the big bosses to decide’ alludes that it’s above Pep.

The club World Cup is a huge distraction to the work that needs to be done and the decisions that must be made in the summer.

Multiple players leaving, many of whom have been instrumental in the most dominant team in the leagues history, to be replaced with…

Everyone has to be up for this fight but the most important thing is the team have to be together. They are light years from the bond we saw in the treble season, the fun has gone from the squad.

“You learn a lot of new things,” said Silva. “In the bad moments you learn new things. Who you can go to war with, first of all. Because it's in the bad moments that you see who the real ones are. And a lot of things that were good for us to not take things for granted, for our fans, for the club. And yeah, don't lower our standards.”
“I know we've got people used to winning every year,” said Silva. “And people demand this team to win every year. Football is a tough sport and it's not easy to beat these teams, especially in the Premier League. Like today, this team has a lot of individual quality. If you go and look around teams in the Premier League, all of them have two, three players that are unbelievable players. Our level needs to be very, very high to be champions again. And that's the level that we want to reach again.”
“It's a really, really bad season for us,” he said. “Something has to change next year. It's for the big bosses to decide. I have my opinion but definitely something needs to change when you don't perform at this level.”

I don't see it as much more than a call for the whole club to fight to get back to the top.
He, like most of us, is frustrated that we are not at the level we were. He will be frustrated with himself, and at the board for releasing his comrade, KDB.
Different context when it’s not divided up for click bait

Can you imagine Bernardo in the trenches? He'd be running up and down the trench rather than over the top towards the enemy's trenches.

PB you have really disappointed me. That remark is not what I would expect from you. Bernie has been a mainstay throughout all his time with us and continues to give 110% and more.

To be honest just for his cuppa in the line up for the wrong end of the East Lancs lot gives him enough kudos in the bag to last a lifetime without his stalwart efforts on the pitch.

Beneath you that remark. :-(

Far worse has been said on this forum about our players and managers, for far less.

Some posters seem to be held to higher standards. Kind of like a few of us (myself included) seem to be doing with Bernardo.

But if both I reckon, it must be tiring under Pep but equally frustrating we can all see it’s not working maybe the plays do as well and then there will be those loyal to Pep no matter what maybe this us the rift!

Yes, true, although that itself has regrouped it too.

It is fair, we don't know the full context or order. But the specific quotes do read bad, and are poorly timed (tbf we don't know when they were said either).

Ruthless Pep got a bit mellow in his 50’s and showed a bit too much loyalty to some, it’s widely accepted & acknowledged. The problems have surfaced when that loyalty wasn’t repaid by certain players, some of it covered on this thread. What we’re seeing now is a reaction to that, Pep has the receipts but is still scrambling round to solve said issues, which won’t happen overnight. Pep also has his right hand men in the squad, one of whom fucked off mid season, the rest (we all know who they are) we should be backing 1000% to get us through this period, not turning on em, I genuinely think some people are revelling in what’s happening just to say I told you so….ridiculous

Fair play to him calling this out. I'm sure there are a few who coast when we are doing well and hide when its shit. Bernie has run through brick walls for us since he has been here, he has played multiple roles for the team and you could tell was absolutely knackered when we were at our worst this season but still carried on trying his hardest.

Ah the "I told you so" nah nah ne nah nah jibe.
Maybe they just got it right at the time.
Nobody is revelling in this.

exactly and in my opinion Bernie is the top three players who didn't contribute positively to the games and still think they are the leaders (KDB and Gundo the other, but KDB and Gundo at least tried to play positively just the magic has gone). Bernie deliberately played passive football as if it is his special attribute.
I'm not sure I agree with this point, I think Bernie is doing what he's told to do. Even in his best seasons for us (some of the greatest any player have ever given us) his "positive" stats are pretty meagre. Not his job.

But the point he and Pep have been making are some players have ducked the hard games. I admit Bernie has been poor in a poor team, but he's still gone out and given everything he's had. He's done every single job that has been asked out of him, played in positions that make him a worse footballer, faced up to the criticisms of the team, and been there every three days in the depth of winter when we were really shite, in the middle of an injury crisis, and clearly one or two players were asking not to play when we barely had 11 senior players to play. Gvardiol, Haaland, Rico, Kova can all hold their hands up for meeting the basic standard of what football fans want: leave everything on the pitch, even if you're having a bad game or period.

28 pages and nobody has linked it back to the kitman leaving…..standards have slipped on ere
Since the kitman left bluemoon has really dropped its standards.

I've personally criticized Silva a lot this season as his short passing and creative input hasn't been good enough in my opinion. He does put himself about and I do love his little mean streak and he has been a fantastic player over the years for us. I think he's earned the right to have an opinion and air it.

Ironically I think his main issue this season is trying to do too much. I'm tired of seeing him come deep, get the ball off the centre half and make the pass the centre half could make. He needs to be much higher up the pitch. I know he got a lot of praise for the Chelsea game and helping out Khusanov but I think K had recovered pretty quickly from his bad start.

Anyway he's done my head in but I think he's been victim to the crisis we had, everyone got the jitters, we had no defence, everyone is taking too many touches and our creators have suffered all year. I suspect he's either calling out the guys who are saying they aren't available OR there's a bunch of mards in the team complaining about other people rather than getting their game together. This has led to Silva having to take responsibility in the wrong half of the pitch meaning he isn't able to take it in the opposition half. So in that respect I'd say I've probably been too hard on him even though he has frustrated the life out of me. He's probably now the player out of KdB, Gundogan and Kovacic i would want to keep around next year.

I personally can't wait for the season to end in the hope we can get over the trauma of that crisis period where we were losing leads and throwing away games. I feel like it's when a players done his ACL and is coming back from that - everyone just needs to get their nerve back together

I get totally where you are coming from. I hold @Prestwich_Blue in the highest regard, along with about half a dozen others, so I guess I am possibly being hard on him. I hope he understands. :-)

I've felt similar on this thread tbf. Posters jumping on my back, for my reaction (potential overreaction) to it at the time. When far worse gets said about other players just as significant as bernardo, or our manager. Sometimes by the very posters jumping on my back!
