Bernardo Silva - 2017/18 performances

Despite the eventual result, I enjoyed the City v Monaco games and they were clearly a very talented side. I was particularly impressed by Mendy and Mbappe. Probably just me but I didn’t even notice Bernardo. I know others did, though, and I respect their opinion. Having watched him this season, it is clear that on the wing he is simply ineffective. He looks much better in the middle and I do remember even Dave needed a little time to settle, even more time to reach his current stellar level.

Nothing I have seen so far suggests that he will be a top player for us. Pep clearly thinks so, however, so we will all have to be patient and see if he is right. I certainly hope to be proven wrong and will thoroughly enjoy eating humble pie in a future post.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

I think I read Bernado was their POtS, did well in both games against us. So far, not been too impressed by him, but may just need a season to adapt before we see what he can do.

As for David Silva settling in, I recall him always going down far too easily, looking at the ref for a decision. When he realised he wasn't in La Liga, he soon learned to stay on his feet. His skill was never in question.

Agree with the summary of David Silva but by November he was an incredibly vital player, more or less undroppable. Bernardo needs to start doing more as the drop off when he starts over Sane or Sterling is huge.

I agree, but Bernado is wasted out wide. Done a lot of running into blind alleys so far, be good to see what he can do in central midfield.

Yeah I think he’ll be better centrally, but I still think when he plays wide he needs to be doing more.
I agree, but we've had Dave and De Bruyne there, so Bernado hasn't had a proper chance to play where he is best. He is definitely one for the future, but I think he needs to convince more than he has done so far when given a chance. I'd start him in the middle tomorrow with DS(if back) with Gundogan on the bench.

I think I’d start Gundogan and David Silva purely due to how many games Bernardo has played recently.

I can't help thinking Gundogan could get injured though. We cannot burn him out. Both him and Bernardo are quality, but the irony is we've seen their best performances in an opposition shirt playing against us.

Both were in teams where their role was settled & they were regular players, tbf though.

It's possible they will reach the same level consistently with us, if they play enough.

That's a fair old 'if' though, as they don't get into our strongest 11 so far.

I definitely think Gundogan is looking more like his old self after the run he had with Silva out.

Don't rate him so far. Some lovely touches but too light weight at the moment and not put his mark on any game yet of any real distinction. He's obvious got a lot of ability though so fingers crossed things change. People compare him to Dave but he was special straight away, don't care what any one says.

I've not been terribly impressed with him this season but contrary to a lot of comments at weekend, I thought he looked a lot fitter & did ok, he just isn't Silva or KDB, and never was, at Dortmund he is different. I think he's a bit unlucky in the way City have developed without him, which has made him somewhat less important than he might have been.

It's a difficult job to replace our 1st choice mids & wide attackers.

Nice that we have such luxury as the quality we have on our bench nowadays. Not easy for players who are not regular starters, but they have to take their chance when given it.

Has the potential to be even better than El Mago. Heracy it may be, but I honestly believe it. We need Sanchez just so we can play this guy in the middle, rather than as a reserve winger

I think he looks a little bit light weight for this league so far which is we he seems to go missing or go down dead ends a lot but luckily he has the perfect example to learn from in his namesake.

He looked better today when he came on, he was linking up with David and enjoying himself by the looks of it. A bit of strength conditioning and adjustment this season and he can get back to enjoying his football every game and hopefully show us the real Bernardo next season.

I think he's graduatly improving, good performance today, but hard to give him to many starters just yet.

He's producing big time with goals and assists over the last month. Assists vs Swansea, Tottenham and Bournemouth, goals vs Leicester and Burnley. Only started two of those games.

B. Silva is class - he'll soon be a massively important player for us once he fully adjusts to the physicality of the P/L.
