Bernardo Silva charged with misconduct by FA

So if the roles were reversed and Mendy calls Bernie a spook would he be berated and charged with rasism

Bernardo meant no offence at all by his tweet. It was a joke between friends about what Bernardo thought Mendy would look like as a child. True.

However, the imagery used could be deemed offensive as the cartoon imagine of a black person with overly large pink lips was often used in previous decades to show black people in a poor or comedic light.

The issue really is one of education. Bernardo clearly didn’t mean to offend anyone. What he’s done is no where close to say Suarez calling someone a derogatory name. We also have to take into account that people from other countries and cultures don’t always have the same learnings about racial issues.

Taking all this into account Bernardo should be warned that images such as this could be deemed offensive and perhaps go on some awareness course. A ban wouldn’t be justified.

1000% agree with all of this.

Personally I think the entire FA charge has come down because of the way the club has handled this. Had we put out a statement Monday morning with words to the effect of "Bernardo apologises for any offence caused. He's voluntarily going on an education course to better understand why what he tweeted was inappropriate. The club will make no further comment." It probably would've gone away as Pep wouldn't have had to talk about it in a post match presser and the likes of kick it out, the media, etc would've been far more onside with us.

As annoyed as I am at Bernardo and Pep, my real rage is with the way the club have handled this. Their silence and their willingness to let Pep have to answer these questions alone, in his second language, in a completely unprepared fashion, is beyond mental. We're a club who put out a fucking statement when that video of us singing the song about LFC on the plane came out. Yet with something as serious as this tweet we sit on our hands and leave it to Pep. My mind's blown by that.

Pretty sure that if I posted a photo on twitter of a robertson's golly alongside a photo of black colleague that I'd be disciplined by my employer regardless of whether it was in the workplace or not. Especially if it was clear from my twitter who my employer is.
What if you chose another cartoon character that WAS still in use and your colleague laughed at your post?

Does your friend look just like a Robertson’s Golly? Would it be done with malice?

And, just for kicks, WOULD it be anything close to the same????

What a completely ridiculous equivalency!!

The PC crowd, in the UK especially, has run amok! This is a cultural misunderstanding, where two people of different cultures are poking fun in another culture. That other culture has decided this is an egregious crime, even though it is without a victim, but the culture has decided THEY are the victim, and thus have to act to stop such “crimes.”

it is pathetic.

Apologies for a perceived mistake have been given.

The supposed target of the crime (“victim”) has claimed no Offence.

And, the sport’s current leading spokesperson on such matters, who happens to be a black man who has been constantly racially abused, has not only spoken eloquently on the matter, but put it into context as NOT a racially motivated issue.

KICK IT OUT, however, who have to be seen to be doing, have decided they know better than any of the black people actually involved, so now the spineless jellyfish that haunt the higher offices of the FA feel the need to act!

I have often wondered whose head would explode if one black player tweeted a picture of, say, a good goal scored by a black teammate with the phrase “My Ni****!” as the only comment. Would that be racist?

What if a white teammate did it?

This is the response from sky after I emailed them after their witch hunt on Saturday night.
Don't know why I bothered.

I think there's an objective truth to the image Bernardo used being offensive to many many people of colour. That's not even a controversial thing for me to say.

I totally agree that Bernardo isn't racist, just as I agree that it was in bad taste. Personally I think that he should get a fine and be sent to be educated on why so many people found the image racist.

Stick to the podcasts please. Reading stuff on here has almost been a pleasure since Dismal and yourself fucked off.

Hope you are right , the problem in all this are that we are not all together where is the support for Bernardo Pep has come out but was crucifty ied by his own fans on Blue Moon and 93:20 podcasts .
Bernardo and Pep have no roots to City and if the find that there own fans do not support them why should they stay ?
I dont think it nice to be called racist if you know that you are not .
It’s ok, plenty of decent non City podcasts were ok about the situation and said it’s was perhaps naïve to post however the charge that followed is stupid.

Vote with your feet if you don’t like what you’re listening to.
