Wow, this thread is shocking.

The character is a little gollywog, I can't believe an EU country actually has a product on it's shelves with that image.

Whilst I agree - the fact is a number of country’s do have it on their shelves and those countries include Portugal. Remind me where Bernardo is from? All he is guilty of is not understanding over sensitivity of “always offended” people in the UK.

If common sense prevails at the FA (fat chance) then they will accept that there was no racist intent and should this as an education opportunity rather than one that deserves punishment. The appropriate action would be for Kick It Out to prepare a concise statement explaining why the tweet was unacceptable and have Bernado (and possibly Mendy) involved in some way in publicising it. This way the issue could be discussed openly and everyone could learn something........

Maybe he needs to start biting people to complete his transition to public enemy number 1!

I think there's an objective truth to the image Bernardo used being offensive to many many people of colour. That's not even a controversial thing for me to say.

I totally agree that Bernardo isn't racist, just as I agree that it was in bad taste. Personally I think that he should get a fine and be sent to be educated on why so many people found the image racist.

There's a person of colour as you put a few desks away from me today and he is not offended by it one bit.

We know why it's a controversial picture and all the implications that go with it but we also know that it is all over bags of sweets where Pep and Bernardo hail from. That complicates matters if you are judging this but all that is required is a bit of education on why you cannot do what Bernado did in this country.

Having worked for many decades in front line diversity challenges i absolutely believe that the way to a racist free society is for 2 people to be able to share a joke without anyone thinking it is anything other than that.

The only fault that Bernie could conceivably be accused of is that our society is not ready for the future. Sad but true.

I happen to agree with this stance.
