Bernardo Silva charged with misconduct by FA

Does your friend look just like a Robertson’s Golly? Would it be done with malice?

And, just for kicks, WOULD it be anything close to the same????

What a completely ridiculous equivalency!!

The PC crowd, in the UK especially, has run amok! This is a cultural misunderstanding, where two people of different cultures are poking fun in another culture. That other culture has decided this is an egregious crime, even though it is without a victim, but the culture has decided THEY are the victim, and thus have to act to stop such “crimes.”

it is pathetic.

Apologies for a perceived mistake have been given.

The supposed target of the crime (“victim”) has claimed no Offence.

And, the sport’s current leading spokesperson on such matters, who happens to be a black man who has been constantly racially abused, has not only spoken eloquently on the matter, but put it into context as NOT a racially motivated issue.

KICK IT OUT, however, who have to be seen to be doing, have decided they know better than any of the black people actually involved, so now the spineless jellyfish that haunt the higher offices of the FA feel the need to act!

I have often wondered whose head would explode if one black player tweeted a picture of, say, a good goal scored by a black teammate with the phrase “My Ni****!” as the only comment. Would that be racist?

What if a white teammate did it?

Oh I see we're still pretending that Mendy even looks like that cartoon. TBH I think the people kicking off in this thread are less concerned about the club and more concerned about their own inability to keep up with the way the world is now listening to and taking into account the views of people who were previously ignored. Bit snowflakey if you ask me.

Wow, this thread is shocking.

Can we not all just accept that it was probably a pretty stupid idea to tweet this in the first place?

Sure, it's been exaggerated and turned into a witch hunt, but it was bloody stupid.

The character is a little gollywog, I can't believe an EU country actually has a product on it's shelves with that image.

There's also the video where he's joking about Mendy not having trousers on. Does the guy not realise he's got millions of eyes on him? If he doesn't go on a race awareness course he needs a bloody media training course as a start!

This 100%

1000% agree with all of this.

Personally I think the entire FA charge has come down because of the way the club has handled this. Had we put out a statement Monday morning with words to the effect of "Bernardo apologises for any offence caused. He's voluntarily going on an education course to better understand why what he tweeted was inappropriate. The club will make no further comment." It probably would've gone away as Pep wouldn't have had to talk about it in a post match presser and the likes of kick it out, the media, etc would've been far more onside with us.

As annoyed as I am at Bernardo and Pep, my real rage is with the way the club have handled this. Their silence and their willingness to let Pep have to answer these questions alone, in his second language, in a completely unprepared fashion, is beyond mental. We're a club who put out a fucking statement when that video of us singing the song about LFC on the plane came out. Yet with something as serious as this tweet we sit on our hands and leave it to Pep. My mind's blown by that.
The ghost of Peter Swales lives on...

Yes. I’ve been trying to view this incident as if it had been two united or Liverpool players and then dismissed by their manager. I don’t think I’d had have been sympathetic

Lescott was on tv with brown trousers on,the presenter said you forgot to put your trousers on,where was the outrage about that?

Ever thought the silence was down to them thinking there was nothing wrong with the tweet and take offence like half of Britain has.
And also have you ever thought that if they did say something about bernardo and said the tweet was wrong then they are indirectly accusing one of there players of being a racist.
Just a thought.
